BASIC SCRIPTURES SONG OF SOLOMON 2: 15; MATTHEW 17: 14 – 21
BASIC SCRIPTURE: SONG OF SOLOMON 2:15 (KJV)
-
Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.
BASIC SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 17:14-21 (KJV)
-
And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
-
Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
-
And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
-
Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
-
And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
-
Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
-
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Father, expose every little fox in my life — the small sins, the subtle compromises, the hidden issues that spoil the fruit of my life and ministry.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION
Key Verse (Song of Solomon): Song of Solomon 2:15 — “Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.”
Key Verse (Matthew): Matthew 17:20 — “If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”
The Little Foxes (Song of Solomon 2:15):
The bride asks for the foxes to be caught. The little foxes spoil the vines. Foxes are small, but they do great damage. They eat the tender grapes. They ruin the harvest. The big sins are obvious. They are easy to spot. But the little sins are subtle. They are easy to ignore. A little compromise. A little lie. A little gossip. A little lust. A little pride. These little foxes spoil the vine. They destroy what God is growing in you. They steal the fruit of the Spirit. They damage your testimony. They hinder your growth. And they must be caught and destroyed. Do not ignore them. Do not tolerate them. Take them. Remove them. Protect the tender grapes of your life.
The Disciples’ Failure (Matthew 17:14-16):
A man brought his son to Jesus’ disciples. The son was lunatick and sore vexed. He often fell into fire and into water. He was in great torment. The disciples had tried to cast out the demon, but they could not. They had the authority. They had been commissioned. They had cast out demons before. But this time, they failed. They could not help the boy. They were powerless.
The Rebuke (Verse 17):
Jesus rebuked the generation. He said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you?” He was frustrated. Not with the boy. Not with the father. With the disciples. They had walked with Him. They had seen miracles. They had received authority. But they still lacked faith. They still relied on their own strength. They still did not believe.
The Cure (Verse 18):
Jesus rebuked the devil, and the devil departed. The child was cured from that very hour. Jesus did what the disciples could not do. He did it effortlessly. He spoke, and the demon left. The power was not in the effort. It was in the authority. It was in the faith. It was in the Word.
The Question (Verse 19):
The disciples asked Jesus privately, “Why could not we cast him out?” This is an honest question. They wanted to know what was wrong. They were not defensive. They wanted to learn. They wanted to grow.
The Answer (Verses 20-21):
Jesus gave them the answer. “Because of your unbelief.” Not because the demon was too strong. Not because the boy was too sick. Not because the situation was too hard. Because of unbelief. But He did not stop there. He told them what they needed. They needed faith the size of a mustard seed. It is not about quantity. It is about quality. A mustard seed is small, but it is alive. It is growing. It is active. And with that faith, they could speak to a mountain and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.
Prayer and Fasting (Verse 21):
There is a specific kind of demon that requires more than casual faith. It requires prayer and fasting. These are the weapons of spiritual warfare. Prayer is dependence on God. Fasting is the denial of self. Together, they break strongholds. They cast out stubborn demons. They move mountains. You cannot rely on past victories. You cannot rely on old faith. You need fresh prayer. You need fresh fasting. You need fresh dependence.
Question for the Day:
What little foxes are spoiling the vine of your life? Are you dealing with them, or are you ignoring them? And what mountain are you trying to move with your own strength? Are you relying on unbelief, or are you using the weapons of prayer and fasting?
