PART ONE: SCRIPTURE READING

Hebrews 11:23-29 (KJV)

23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.

24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;

25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

28 Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

PART TWO: REFLECTION ON THE SCRIPTURE

Hebrews 11 is often called the “Hall of Faith,” chronicling the lives of those who trusted God against all odds. This passage focuses on Moses—from his birth to the Exodus—highlighting the faith that defined his life and leadership.

The Faith of Moses’ Parents (verse 23)

The chapter begins not with Moses himself but with his parents. By faith, they hid him for three months, defying Pharaoh’s decree. They saw something special in their child and trusted God more than they feared the king. This reminds us that faith often begins in the hearts of those who nurture us.

The Faith to Refuse (verses 24-26)

Moses faced a defining choice: remain in the palace as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter or identify with the enslaved people of God. By faith, he refused.

“Refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter” – He turned down position, privilege, and power.

“Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God” – He chose identification over isolation, suffering over comfort.

“Than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season” – He recognized that sin’s pleasures are temporary, but the reward of righteousness is eternal.

“Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt” – He valued the reproach that comes with identifying with God’s purposes more than the wealth of the world’s greatest empire.

“For he had respect unto the recompence of the reward” – He looked beyond the present to the future, beyond the visible to the invisible.

The Faith to Forsake (verse 27)

“By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.”

Moses left Egypt—not just geographically but mentally and spiritually. He broke free from the grip of Egyptian culture, power, and security. He did not fear Pharaoh’s wrath because he saw the Invisible One. His vision of God outweighed his fear of man.

The Faith to Keep the Passover (verse 28)

“Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.”

The Passover was an act of faith. The blood on the doorposts was a visible sign of trust in God’s promise of deliverance. It required obedience before the evidence of salvation appeared.

The Faith to Pass Through the Red Sea (verse 29)

“By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.”

This was the climax of deliverance. Israel walked through walls of water on dry ground. The same sea that became a highway for faith became a grave for unbelief. Faith leads to life; presumption leads to death.

PART THREE: KEY THEMES FOR PRAYER

1. Faith That Defies Fear

Moses’ parents defied Pharaoh’s decree. Moses defied Pharaoh’s wrath. Faith sees beyond earthly threats to the sovereign God.

2. Faith That Refuses Compromise

Moses refused the pleasures and treasures of Egypt. Faith says “no” to temporary gain for eternal reward.

3. Faith That Chooses Suffering

Moses chose affliction with God’s people over comfort in sin. Faith recognizes that suffering for righteousness is not loss but gain.

4. Faith That Sees the Invisible

Moses endured “as seeing him who is invisible.” Faith looks beyond circumstances to the unchanging God.

5. Faith That Obeys Before Deliverance

Israel kept the Passover before they were delivered. Faith acts on God’s word before the evidence appears.

6. Faith That Passes Through

Israel walked through the sea. Faith does not avoid challenges; it passes through them with God.

PART FOUR: PRAYER POINTS

Prayers Based on Verse 23 – Faith of Parents

1. Father, I thank You for every person who nurtured my faith—parents, mentors, spiritual leaders. Bless them abundantly, in Jesus’ name.

2. Lord, give parents today the faith to protect their children from the schemes of the enemy, in Jesus’ name.

3. Father, help me to recognize and nurture the gifts You have placed in the next generation, in Jesus’ name.

Prayers Based on Verse 24-26 – Faith to Refuse

1. Lord, give me the faith to refuse the pleasures of sin, recognizing they are only for a season, in Jesus’ name.

2. Father, help me to choose identification with Your people over association with the world’s power and privilege, in Jesus’ name.

3. Lord, let me esteem the reproach of Christ as greater riches than all the treasures of this world, in Jesus’ name.

4. Father, open my eyes to see the recompense of reward that awaits those who faithfully follow You, in Jesus’ name.

Prayers Based on Verse 27 – Faith to Forsake

1. Lord, give me the faith to forsake every Egypt in my life—every attachment, every security, every comfort that keeps me from Your purposes, in Jesus’ name.

2. Father, deliver me from the fear of man. Let me not fear the wrath of any king, but only reverence You, in Jesus’ name.

3. Lord, help me to endure by seeing You who are invisible. Let Your presence be more real to me than any visible circumstance, in Jesus’ name.

Prayers Based on Verse 28 – Faith to Keep the Passover

1. Father, I apply the blood of Jesus over my life, my family, my home. Let the destroyer not touch us, in Jesus’ name.

2. Lord, give me faith to obey Your instructions before I see the evidence of deliverance, in Jesus’ name.

3. Father, let the blood of Jesus speak for me—forgiveness, protection, and redemption, in Jesus’ name.

Prayers Based on Verse 29 – Faith to Pass Through

1. Lord, I declare that by faith, I will pass through every Red Sea before me. What the enemy intends for my destruction will become my highway to victory, in Jesus’ name.

2. Father, let me walk on dry ground through impossible situations. Make a way where there seems to be no way, in Jesus’ name.

3. Lord, let the same waters that part for me become the grave of my enemies. Let every pursuing force be drowned, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, give me that same faith:
– Faith to refuse the pleasures of sin
– Faith to choose suffering with Your people over comfort with the world
– Faith to esteem Your reproach as greater riches
– Faith to see You who are invisible
– Faith to apply the blood of Jesus
– Faith to pass through every Red Sea

Let me not be moved by what I see, but anchored in what I believe. Let me endure as seeing Him who is invisible.

I declare that by faith, I will walk on dry ground through impossible waters. I declare that every enemy pursuing me will be drowned.
