Acts 1:8 (KJV)
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (KJV)
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

PART TWO: REFLECTION ON THE SCRIPTURES
Acts 1:8 – The Promise of Power
This verse records the final words of Jesus to His disciples before His ascension. It contains both a promise and a commission:
The Promise: “Ye shall receive power”
The Greek word for power here is dunamis, from which we derive words like dynamite, dynamo, and dynamic. This is not ordinary power but explosive, miraculous, supernatural ability. This power comes through the Holy Spirit, who was promised to all believers.
The Condition: “After that the Holy Ghost is come upon you”
The power is not automatic; it follows the infilling of the Spirit. Every believer who is filled with the Spirit carries this potential for power.
The Purpose: “Ye shall be witnesses unto me”
The power is not for show but for service. It is not for personal glory but for global witness. The geographical progression is significant:
– Jerusalem – Your immediate environment
– All Judaea – Your wider region
– Samaria – Places of historical conflict and division
– Uttermost parts of the earth – The ends of the world
The power of the Spirit enables witness at every level, from your neighborhood to the nations.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 – The Hope of Resurrection
Paul addresses a concern among the Thessalonian believers about those who had died before Christ’s return. He provides essential truths:
The Problem of Ignorance (v.13)
Paul does not want believers to be ignorant about death. Ignorance leads to sorrow without hope. Knowledge brings comfort.
The Foundation of Faith (v.14)
The resurrection of Jesus is the guarantee of our resurrection. Because He lives, we shall live also.
The Order of Events (vv.15-17)
- The Lord Himself shall descend from heaven
- With a shout, the voice of the archangel, and the trump of God
- The dead in Christ rise first
- Those alive are caught up together with them
- We meet the Lord in the air
- So shall we ever be with the Lord
The Purpose of Revelation (v.18)
“Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” This truth is not just for information but for comfort. The hope of resurrection transforms our perspective on death.
PART THREE: PRAYER POINTS
From Acts 1:8
- Father, I thank You for the promise of the Holy Spirit. Thank You that I am not left powerless but equipped with dunamis power, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, let the Holy Ghost come upon me afresh today. Fill me anew with Your presence and power, in Jesus’ name.

Father, I receive power to be a witness. Give me boldness to speak of Jesus in my Jerusalem—my home, my workplace, my community, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, let Your power enable me to reach beyond my comfort zone to Judaea—my region, my nation, in Jesus’ name.

Father, break every barrier of prejudice and division. Let me be a witness even in Samaria—to those who are different from me, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, extend my reach to the uttermost parts of the earth. Use me to touch nations I cannot physically visit, through prayer, giving, and sending, in Jesus’ name.

Father, let the power of the Holy Ghost manifest in signs, wonders, and miracles as I witness, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, remove every fear that hinders my witness. Fill me with holy boldness, in Jesus’ name.

Father, raise up more laborers for the harvest. Let Your church arise in power, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, let the gospel spread rapidly in my generation, empowered by Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, comfort every heart that is mourning the loss of loved ones. Let the hope of resurrection bring peace, in Jesus’ name.

Father, I thank You for these two powerful portions of Scripture. I thank You for the promise of power through the Holy Spirit and the hope of resurrection through Jesus Christ.
Lord, let the Holy Ghost come upon me afresh today. Fill me with dunamis power for witness. Give me boldness to speak of Jesus in my Jerusalem, my Judaea, my Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth. Let signs and wonders follow my witness as confirmation of Your word.
I also thank You for the blessed hope of Your coming. I thank You that the dead in Christ are not lost but asleep, awaiting resurrection. I thank You that one day the Lord Himself shall descend with a shout, the dead shall rise, and we shall be caught up together to meet Him in the air.
Let this hope comfort me in every loss and anchor me in every storm. Let it motivate me to live in holiness and readiness.
