ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — SUNDAY, 11TH OCTOBER 2026
Key Verse (Isaiah): Isaiah 65:23 — “They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.”
Key Verse (Psalm): Psalm 128:2 — “For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.”
Build and Inhabit (Isaiah 65:21-22):
God promises a reversal of the curse. Under the old order, enemies would take what God’s people built. They would inhabit houses they did not construct. They would eat from vineyards they did not plant. But God promises a new day. His people will build and inhabit. They will plant and eat. They will not build for another. They will not plant for another. Their labour will be for their own enjoyment. Their work will be for their own blessing. God’s people will enjoy the fruit of their labour. They will not be dispossessed. They will not be robbed. They will not be denied. They will possess what they have produced.
As the Days of a Tree (Isaiah 65:22):
The days of God’s people will be as the days of a tree. Trees live long. Trees endure. Trees are stable. Trees are fruitful. Trees are rooted. Trees are strong. God’s people will live long. They will endure. They will be fruitful. They will be rooted. They will be strong. They will enjoy the work of their hands. They will not be cut off prematurely. They will not be uprooted. They will not be destroyed. They will flourish. They will prosper. They will live.
Not Labour in Vain (Isaiah 65:23):
God’s people will not labour in vain. Their work will not be wasted. Their efforts will not be fruitless. Their toil will not be empty. They will not bring forth for trouble. Their children will not be born for calamity. Their offspring will not be destined for disaster. They are the seed of the blessed of the LORD. They are blessed. Their children are blessed. Their descendants are blessed. The blessing flows from generation to generation. It does not stop. It does not end. It continues.
Blessed Is Everyone That Fears the LORD (Psalm 128:1):
The psalm begins with a declaration of blessing. Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord. Not just some. Not just a few. Not just the special. Everyone. Every person. Every man. Every woman. Every child. Everyone who fears the Lord is blessed. And what does it mean to fear the Lord? It means to reverence Him. To honour Him. To respect Him. To obey Him. To worship Him. To submit to Him. To trust Him. To love Him. To follow Him. And the one who fears the Lord walks in His ways. Not just knows His ways. Not just admires His ways. Not just talks about His ways. Walks in His ways. Lives in His ways. Obeys His ways. Follows His ways. Practices His ways.
You Shall Eat the Labour of Your Hands (Psalm 128:2):
This is a promise of provision. You will eat what you produce. You will enjoy what you work for. You will benefit from your own efforts. You will not work for nothing. You will not labour for others to enjoy. You will eat. You will be satisfied. You will be nourished. You will be filled. And the result is happiness. “Happy shalt thou be.” Not just blessed. Not just prosperous. Happy. Content. Satisfied. Joyful. And it shall be well with thee. Not just some things. Not just a few things. All things. Everything. Your life. Your family. Your work. Your future. It shall be well.
The Fruitful Vine and the Olive Plants (Psalm 128:3):
The psalmist uses beautiful imagery. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine. A vine is productive. A vine is fruitful. A vine is beautiful. A vine is a source of joy. Your wife will be a source of joy. A source of fruitfulness. A source of blessing. She will be by the sides of your house. She will be at the heart of your home. She will be central to your family. And your children will be like olive plants. Olive plants are young. They are tender. They are growing. They are promising. They are round about your table. They are with you. They are near you. They are part of your life. They are part of your home. They are part of your joy.
The Blessing from Zion (Psalm 128:5):
The Lord will bless you out of Zion. Zion is the city of God. Zion is the place of His presence. Zion is the source of blessing. The blessing does not come from the world. It does not come from man. It does not come from circumstance. It comes from God. It comes from His presence. It comes from His throne. It comes from His heart. And you will see the good of Jerusalem. You will see the prosperity of God’s city. You will see the blessing of God’s people. You will see the goodness of God’s kingdom. All the days of your life. Not just for a season. Not just for a moment. All the days. Every day. Until the end.
Question for the Day — Sunday, 11th October 2026:
Do you fear the Lord and walk in His ways? Are you eating the labour of your hands? Are you experiencing the blessing of God in your home and family? And are you seeing the good of God’s city all the days of your life?
