BASIC SCRIPTURE 12th OCTOBER 2026 BIBLE READING PRAYER POINTS AND DECLARATIONS

BASIC SCRIPTURES: EPHESIANS 5:22-33; GENESIS 2:24
BASIC SCRIPTURE: MONDAY, 12TH OCTOBER 2026 — EPHESIANS 5:22-33 (KJV)
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
BASIC SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 2:24 (KJV)
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — MONDAY, 12TH OCTOBER 2026
Key Verse (Ephesians): Ephesians 5:32 — “This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.”
Key Verse (Genesis): Genesis 2:24 — “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
The Divine Order of Marriage (Ephesians 5:22-24):
Paul begins with the wives. He calls them to submit to their husbands as unto the Lord. Submission is not inferiority. It is not slavery. It is not silence. It is order. It is structure. It is design. God has established a divine order in marriage. The husband is the head of the wife. Not a tyrant. Not a dictator. Not a lord. A head. The head provides. The head protects. The head guides. The head leads. And the wife is to submit as the church submits to Christ. The church is not inferior to Christ. The church is not less valuable. The church is not less loved. The church is in submission to Christ because He is the head. So the wife is in submission to her husband because he is the head.
The Husband’s Sacrificial Love (Ephesians 5:25-29):
Paul then turns to the husbands. He commands them to love their wives. Not with a superficial love. Not with a selfish love. Not with a conditional love. With a sacrificial love. The same love Christ has for the church. Christ loved the church. He gave Himself for it. He died for it. He sacrificed for it. He laid down His life for it. That is the standard. Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church. Sacrificially. Selflessly. Completely. Unconditionally. Unreservedly. Paul also says husbands should nourish and cherish their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. No man hates his own flesh. He nourishes it. He cherishes it. So a husband should nourish and cherish his wife.
The Purpose of Love and Submission (Ephesians 5:26-27):
The purpose of Christ’s love for the church is sanctification. He sanctifies it. He cleanses it. He washes it with water by the word. He prepares it for presentation. He makes it glorious. Without spot. Without wrinkle. Without blemish. Holy. Pure. Beautiful. So the husband’s love should sanctify his wife. It should cleanse her. It should wash her with the word. It should prepare her for glory. It should make her beautiful. It should present her holy and blameless. The husband’s love is not just for his benefit. It is for her blessing. It is for her growth. It is for her transformation.
One Flesh (Genesis 2:24):
Paul quotes Genesis 2:24. “For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.” This is the foundation of marriage. God established it in the beginning. A man leaves his father and mother. He leaves his old life. He leaves his old family. He leaves his old identity. He cleaves to his wife. He joins himself to her. He unites with her. He becomes one with her. They are no longer two. They are one. One flesh. One body. One life. One destiny. One purpose. One future. This is the mystery of marriage. This is the beauty of marriage. This is the design of marriage.
The Great Mystery (Ephesians 5:32):
Paul calls this a great mystery. He says he is speaking concerning Christ and the church. Marriage is a picture of Christ and the church. The husband represents Christ. The wife represents the church. Christ loves the church. Christ sacrifices for the church. Christ sanctifies the church. Christ cleanses the church. Christ presents the church. The church submits to Christ. The church follows Christ. The church serves Christ. The church honours Christ. This is the mystery. This is the picture. This is the beauty of marriage. It is not just a human institution. It is a divine revelation. It is not just a social contract. It is a spiritual covenant. It is not just about two people. It is about Christ and His church.
The Final Command (Ephesians 5:33):
Paul concludes with a final command. “Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.” The husband is to love his wife as he loves himself. The wife is to reverence her husband. This is not optional. This is not a suggestion. This is a command. This is the will of God. This is the design of God. This is the blessing of God. When husbands love and wives reverence, marriage flourishes. When husbands love and wives reverence, families are strong. When husbands love and wives reverence, God is glorified. When husbands love and wives reverence, the world sees Christ and the church.
Question for the Day — Monday, 12th October 2026:
Is your marriage reflecting the relationship between Christ and the church? Are you walking in the divine order God has established? And are you loving or reverencing your spouse as unto the Lord?
