BASIC SCRIPTURES: ECCLESIASTES 4:9-10; EPHESIANS 5:22-33

BASIC SCRIPTURE: TUESDAY, 13TH OCTOBER 2026 — ECCLESIASTES 4:9-10 (KJV)

  1. Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.

  2. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.

BASIC SCRIPTURE: EPHESIANS 5:22-33 (KJV)

  1. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

  2. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

  3. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

  4. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

  5. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

  6. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

  7. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

  8. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

  9. For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

  10. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

  11. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

  12. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — TUESDAY, 13TH OCTOBER 2026

Key Verse (Ecclesiastes): Ecclesiastes 4:9 — “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.”

Key Verse (Ephesians): Ephesians 5:25 — “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.”

Two Are Better Than One (Ecclesiastes 4:9):

Solomon declares a profound truth. Two are better than one. Not because one is worthless. Not because one is weak. But because two are stronger. Two are more effective. Two are more productive. Two have a good reward for their labour. Together, they accomplish more. Together, they achieve greater things. Together, they reap a greater harvest. Partnership is a gift from God. Companionship is a blessing. Collaboration is wisdom. Isolation is a curse.

If They Fall, One Will Lift Up His Fellow (Ecclesiastes 4:10):

The second verse explains why two are better than one. When one falls, the other can lift him up. When one stumbles, the other can steady him. When one is weak, the other can strengthen him. When one is down, the other can raise him. But woe to him that is alone when he falleth. He has no one to help him up. He has no one to lift him. He has no one to support him. He has no one to encourage him. He is alone. He is vulnerable. He is exposed. He is helpless. Being alone is not a blessing. It is a danger. It is a curse. It is a trap. God did not create us to be alone. He created us for relationship. He created us for community. He created us for partnership.

Marriage as the Ultimate Partnership:

Marriage is the ultimate human partnership. It is the most intimate. It is the most sacred. It is the most enduring. It is the most precious. It is the union of two people into one. It is the joining of two lives into one destiny. It is the merging of two purposes into one mission. It is the blending of two strengths into one power. It is the combining of two weaknesses into one dependence. It is the weaving of two stories into one narrative. It is the creation of a new entity. It is the formation of a new family. It is the beginning of a new generation. Marriage is God’s design for partnership. Marriage is God’s plan for companionship. Marriage is God’s gift for mutual support. In marriage, two are better than one. In marriage, when one falls, the other lifts him up. In marriage, there is a good reward for the labour. In marriage, there is strength, support, and security.

The Divine Order in Marriage (Ephesians 5:22-24):

Paul reaffirms the divine order in marriage. Wives submit to their husbands as unto the Lord. The husband is the head of the wife. He is not a tyrant. He is not a dictator. He is not a lord. He is a head. He provides. He protects. He guides. He leads. And the wife is to submit as the church submits to Christ. This is not inferiority. This is not oppression. This is order. This is design. This is structure. The church submits to Christ because He is the head. The wife submits to her husband because he is the head.

The Husband’s Sacrificial Love (Ephesians 5:25-29):

Paul commands husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church. Christ gave Himself for the church. He died for it. He sacrificed for it. He laid down His life for it. Husbands are to love their wives with the same sacrificial love. They are to nourish and cherish them as their own bodies. They are to sanctify and cleanse them with the washing of water by the word. They are to present them glorious, without spot, wrinkle, or blemish. They are to love their wives as they love themselves. They are to be the source of blessing, protection, provision, and guidance in the home.

One Flesh (Ephesians 5:31):

Paul quotes Genesis 2:24. “For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.” This is the foundation of marriage. Two become one. They are joined. They are united. They are merged. They are inseparable. They are one flesh. One body. One life. One destiny. One purpose. One future. They are no longer two. They are one. This is the mystery. This is the beauty. This is the design. This is the blessing.

The Great Mystery (Ephesians 5:32):

Paul calls this a great mystery. He says he is speaking concerning Christ and the church. Marriage is a picture of Christ and the church. The husband represents Christ. The wife represents the church. Christ loves the church. Christ sacrifices for the church. Christ sanctifies the church. Christ cleanses the church. Christ presents the church. The church submits to Christ. The church follows Christ. The church serves Christ. The church honours Christ. This is the mystery. This is the picture. This is the beauty of marriage. It is not just a human institution. It is a divine revelation. It is not just a social contract. It is a spiritual covenant. It is not just about two people. It is about Christ and His church.

The Final Command (Ephesians 5:33):

Paul concludes with a final command. Husbands love your wives as yourselves. Wives reverence your husbands. This is not optional. This is not a suggestion. This is a command. This is the will of God. This is the design of God. This is the blessing of God. When husbands love and wives reverence, marriage flourishes. When husbands love and wives reverence, families are strong. When husbands love and wives reverence, God is glorified. When husbands love and wives reverence, the world sees Christ and the church.

Question for the Day — Tuesday, 13th October 2026:

Are you walking in partnership or in isolation? When someone falls, do you lift them up? Is your marriage reflecting the mystery of Christ and the church? And are you loving or reverencing your spouse as unto the Lord?
