BASIC SCRIPTURES: JOB 1:1-10; PROVERBS 27:19

BASIC SCRIPTURE: THURSDAY, 5TH NOVEMBER 2026 — JOB 1:1-10 (KJV)

  1. There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

  2. And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.

  3. His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

  4. And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

  5. And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

  6. Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

  7. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

  8. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

  9. Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

  10. Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

BASIC SCRIPTURE: PROVERBS 27:19 (KJV)

  1. As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.

PRAYER POINTS — THURSDAY, 5TH NOVEMBER 2026

  1. Father, make me a person of integrity like Job — perfect, upright, fearing God, and eschewing evil.

  2. Lord, let me not just avoid evil outwardly but also inwardly. Let my heart be pure before You.

  3. Father, help me to sanctify my household and to intercede for my children continually.

  4. Lord, let me not be like those who serve You only for what they can get. Let me serve You for who You are.

  5. Father, give me a heart that fears You and departs from evil, even when no one is watching.

  6. Lord, let my heart be reflected in my life. Let the face I show to the world be the same as the heart within me.

  7. Father, when the enemy challenges my motives, let my life prove that I serve You out of love, not just for blessings.

  8. Lord, let me be faithful and consistent in my walk with You, not just in seasons of blessing but also in seasons of trial.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — THURSDAY, 5TH NOVEMBER 2026

Key Verse (Job): Job 1:9-10 — “Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side?”

Key Verse (Proverbs): Proverbs 27:19 — “As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.”

The Character of Job (Job 1:1):

Job is introduced as a man of outstanding character. He was perfect. Not sinless. Not flawless. But complete. Whole. Mature. He was upright. He was moral. He was ethical. He was honest. He was just. He was one who feared God. He reverenced God. He honoured God. He respected God. He worshipped God. And he eschewed evil. He hated evil. He rejected evil. He avoided evil. He fled from evil. He refused evil. This was his character. This was his testimony. This was his identity. He was not perfect in the sense of never sinning. But he was perfect in the sense of being wholehearted. His heart was fully devoted to God.

The Blessing of Job (Job 1:2-3):

God had blessed Job abundantly. He had seven sons and three daughters. He had seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses. He had a very great household. He was the greatest of all the men of the east. He was wealthy. He was prosperous. He was successful. He was influential. He was respected. He was honoured. God had blessed him. God had prospered him. God had increased him. God had hedged him about.

Job’s Concern for His Children (Job 1:4-5):

Job’s sons feasted in their houses. They celebrated. They enjoyed themselves. They invited their sisters. And after the days of feasting, Job would sanctify them. He would rise early in the morning. He would offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. He did this continually. He was concerned about their spiritual state. He feared that they might have sinned. He feared that they might have cursed God in their hearts. He interceded for them. He prayed for them. He offered sacrifices for them. He was a priest in his home.

The Heavenly Council (Job 1:6-7):

There was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD. Satan came also among them. God asked him, “Whence comest thou?” Satan answered, “From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.” Satan is not omnipresent. He is not everywhere at once. He moves about. He walks to and fro. He is active. He is seeking. He is searching. He is looking for victims. He is looking for opportunities. He is looking for weak spots. He is looking for open doors.

God’s Testimony of Job (Job 1:8):

God spoke of Job. He said, “Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?” God was proud of Job. God was testifying of Job. God was boasting about Job. God was commending Job. God was honouring Job. God was pleased with Job. He was God’s servant. He was God’s chosen. He was God’s testimony. He was God’s example.

Satan’s Challenge (Job 1:9-10):

Satan responded with a challenge. He said, “Doth Job fear God for nought?” He questioned Job’s motives. He questioned Job’s sincerity. He questioned Job’s integrity. He said, “Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.” Satan accused Job of serving God for selfish reasons. He accused Job of serving God for what he could get. He accused Job of serving God for protection. He accused Job of serving God for prosperity. He accused Job of serving God for blessing. He said Job served God because God blessed him. He said Job served God because God protected him. He said Job served God because God prospered him. He said Job served God for gain. He said Job served God for profit. He said Job served God for reward.

The Heart of Man (Proverbs 27:19):

Solomon gives a profound observation. “As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.” When you look into water, you see your reflection. You see your face. You see yourself. In the same way, the heart of a man reflects the heart of another. You can see yourself in others. You can understand others by understanding yourself. You can relate to others by knowing your own heart. This is the key to understanding Satan’s challenge. He projected his own heart onto Job. He was projecting his own selfishness. He was projecting his own pride. He was projecting his own rebellion. He could not understand someone who served God for nought. He could not understand someone who served God for love. He could not understand someone who served God for who He is. He could only understand someone who served God for gain. He could only understand someone who served God for profit. He could only understand someone who served God for reward. He projected his own heart onto Job. But Job was different. Job was not like Satan. Job served God for God. Job loved God for God. Job worshipped God for God. And his heart was not the heart of Satan.

The Lesson for Us:

Why do you serve God? Do you serve Him for what He can give you? Do you serve Him for protection? Do you serve Him for prosperity? Do you serve Him for blessing? Do you serve Him for healing? Do you serve Him for breakthrough? Or do you serve Him for who He is? Do you love Him for who He is? Do you worship Him for who He is? Do you obey Him for who He is? This is the question. This is the challenge. This is the test. Job passed the test. He served God for nought. He served God for God. He served God because God is God. And you can do the same. Examine your heart. Check your motives. Purify your intentions. And serve God for God. Love Him for Him. Worship Him for Him. And He will be glorified in your life.

Question for the Day — Thursday, 5th November 2026:

Why do you serve God? Do you serve Him for what He can give you, or do you serve Him for who He is? Doth Job fear God for nought? Do you fear God for nought? Examine your heart. Check your motives. And serve God for God.
