DEVOTIONAL REFLECTION

These two passages, though from different testaments, speak powerfully about deliverance, affliction, and the supreme value of God’s Word.

Hebrews 2:14–16 continues the theme of Christ’s incarnation and victory. Jesus took on flesh and blood specifically to destroy the devil and deliver us from the lifelong bondage of the fear of death. Notice that the devil’s power over humanity was not primarily through force but through fear. By conquering death through His own resurrection, Jesus broke that fear permanently. Verse 16 adds a beautiful detail: Jesus did not come to help angels (who fell and were not redeemed), but He took on the seed of Abraham—He came for us, His human children.

Psalm 119:71–72 offers a surprising perspective: “It is good for me that I have been afflicted.” The psalmist does not deny the pain of affliction, but he recognizes its purpose—affliction drove him to learn God’s statutes. Without hardship, he might have remained shallow or self-reliant. Then he declares that God’s Word (the law of His mouth) is better to him than thousands of gold and silver. This is a radical value system: God’s Word is more precious than all the wealth in the world.

Together, these verses teach us:

• Christ’s death broke the power of the devil and the fear of death.

• Affliction, though painful, can be a teacher that drives us closer to God.

• God’s Word is of greater value than any earthly treasure.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, I thank You for sending Jesus to partake of flesh and blood, becoming like me so that He could destroy the devil and deliver me. (Hebrews 2:14)

2. Lord, I declare that through the death of Jesus, the devil—who had the power of death—has been destroyed and rendered powerless over my life, my family, and my destiny. (Hebrews 2:14)

3. Father, deliver me completely from every fear of death that has held me in bondage. I refuse to live in fear of dying, sickness, accidents, or any threat of the enemy. (Hebrews 2:15)

4. Lord, I renounce the spirit of fear. Perfect love casts out fear. I receive the love of God that liberates me from all bondage. (Hebrews 2:15)

5. Father, thank You that Jesus took not the nature of angels, but the seed of Abraham. He became my brother, my kinsman-redeemer, my Savior. (Hebrews 2:16)

6. Lord, in every affliction I face, help me to see Your hand and Your purpose. Let my trials teach me Your statutes and draw me closer to You. (Psalm 119:71)

7. Father, I receive the revelation that affliction can be good for me. Change my perspective so that I do not waste my suffering but learn from it. (Psalm 119:71)

8. Lord, give me a love for Your Word that surpasses my love for money, possessions, or earthly treasure. Let Your Word be more precious to me than gold. (Psalm 119:72)

9. Father, let the law of Your mouth—Your promises, Your commands, Your truth—dwell richly in me. Let it be my delight and my treasure. (Psalm 119:72)

10. Lord, help me to value Your Word above thousands of gold and silver. Let me hunger for Scripture more than for wealth, success, or comfort.

DECLARATIONS

(Speak these aloud in faith)

1. I declare that Jesus partook of flesh and blood just like me. He became human to destroy the devil and deliver me from death.

2. I declare that the devil has been destroyed. He no longer has the power of death over me. Christ has conquered the grave.

3. I declare that I am delivered from the fear of death. I will not live my life in bondage to fear. Death has lost its sting, and I am free.

4. I declare that I do not fear dying because I know my Redeemer lives. To live is Christ, and to die is gain.

5. I declare that Jesus took on the seed of Abraham—He became my brother. I am not alone; I belong to His family forever.

6. I declare that every affliction I face is not wasted. God is using my trials to teach me His statutes and conform me to His image.

7. I declare that it is good for me to have been afflicted, because affliction drives me to the Word of God.

8. I declare that the law of God’s mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver. His Word is my true treasure.

9. I declare that I value Scripture above every earthly possession. I will read it, meditate on it, and obey it all the days of my life.

10. I declare that I am free from fear, established in God’s Word, and walking in the victory that Christ purchased for me on the cross.
