Proverbs 15:1: The Power of a Gentle Response
This verse is one of the most practical wisdom sayings in Scripture. “A soft answer turneth away wrath” —a gentle, controlled response can defuse anger and prevent conflict from escalating. In contrast, “grievous words” —harsh, cutting, or provocative speech—stirs up anger and makes situations worse. This doesn’t mean we compromise truth, but that we choose our words carefully and speak with grace. The power of life and death is in the tongue, and a gentle word can heal what harsh words have broken.

Proverbs 15:2: Wise Speech vs. Foolish Speech
The “tongue of the wise” makes good use of knowledge, speaking with understanding and discretion. The wise person knows when to speak, what to speak, and how to speak.
