HEBREWS 2:14–18 (KJV)

14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

DEVOTIONAL REFLECTION

These two passages together form a complete picture of Christ’s victory and our peace. Hebrews 2 explains how Jesus won that victory—by becoming human, dying, destroying the devil, and delivering us from the fear of death. John 16 records Jesus speaking to His disciples on the night before His crucifixion, preparing them for the tribulation to come.

Notice the progression in Hebrews:

• Jesus took on flesh and blood (verse 14).

• Through death, He destroyed the devil (verse 14).

• He delivered us from the lifelong bondage of the fear of death (verse 15).

• He became like us to be a merciful and faithful high priest (verse 17).

• Because He suffered temptation, He can help us when we are tempted (verse 18).

In John 16, Jesus makes a stunning prediction: His disciples would scatter and leave Him alone. Yet He declares, “I am not alone, because the Father is with me.” Then He speaks directly to us: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

The world system is full of trouble, persecution, and trials. But Jesus has already overcome it all. His victory is our peace. We do not need to be afraid of tribulation because the Overcomer lives in us.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, I thank You for sending Jesus to partake of flesh and blood, to destroy the devil and deliver me from the fear of death. (Hebrews 2:14–15)

2. Lord, I declare that through the death of Jesus, the devil has been destroyed and rendered powerless over my life. I am free from his grip. (Hebrews 2:14)

3. Father, deliver me completely from every fear of death, sickness, accident, or any threat that has held me in bondage. I receive perfect love that casts out fear. (Hebrews 2:15)

4. Lord Jesus, I thank You that You took on the seed of Abraham—You became my brother, my kinsman-redeemer. I belong to Your family. (Hebrews 2:16)

5. Father, thank You for making Jesus my merciful and faithful high priest. He has made reconciliation for my sins, and He intercedes for me. (Hebrews 2:17)

6. Lord, because You suffered being tempted, I know You are able to succour (help) me when I am tempted. Send help to me in every moment of trial. (Hebrews 2:18)

7. Lord Jesus, I hear Your words: “In me ye might have peace.” I receive that peace today—not peace from circumstances, but peace in You. (John 16:33)

8. Father, I acknowledge that in this world I will have tribulation. I do not pretend otherwise. But I also declare that Jesus has overcome the world. (John 16:33)

9. Lord, when tribulation comes—when I am scattered, alone, or afraid—remind me that I am not alone because the Father is with me, just as He was with Jesus. (John 16:32)

10. Father, fill me with good cheer and bold confidence. I do not need to be anxious or fearful because the Overcomer lives in me. I overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony.

DECLARATIONS

1. I declare that Jesus partook of flesh and blood just like me. He became human to destroy the devil and deliver me from death.

2. I declare that the devil has been destroyed. He no longer has the power of death over me. Christ has conquered the grave, and I am free.

3. I declare that I am delivered from the fear of death. I will not live my life in bondage to fear. Death has lost its sting.

4. I declare that Jesus took on the seed of Abraham—He became my brother. I am not alone; I belong to His family forever.

5. I declare that Jesus is my merciful and faithful high priest. He has made reconciliation for my sins, and He lives to intercede for me.

6. I declare that because Jesus suffered temptation, He is able to help me when I am tempted. I will never face temptation alone.

7. I declare that I have peace in Christ. Not peace from trouble, but peace in the midst of trouble. His peace guards my heart and mind.

8. I declare that in this world I will have tribulation, but I am not afraid. Jesus has overcome the world, and I overcome in Him.

9. I declare that even when everyone scatters and leaves me alone, I am not alone. The Father is with me, just as He was with Jesus.

10. I declare that I am of good cheer. The victory is already won. I walk in the triumph of the Overcomer, Jesus Christ my Lord.
