BASIC SCRIPTURE: 1 PETER 5: 5-14

BASIC SCRIPTURE: 1 PETER 5:5-14 (KJV)

5. Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

6. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

8. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9. Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

10. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

11. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

12. By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.

13. The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.

14. Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, clothe me with humility. Let me submit to others and walk in lowliness of heart.

2. Lord, I humble myself under Your mighty hand. I trust You to exalt me in due time, not by my own striving.

3. Father, I cast all my care upon You, for I know that You care for me. I release every worry and anxiety into Your hands.

4. Lord, give me sobriety and vigilance. Let me be watchful and alert, for the enemy seeks to devour me.

5. Father, help me to resist the devil steadfast in the faith. Let me not be shaken by his attacks.

6. Lord, I know that the same afflictions are accomplished in my brethren. Let me not think that I suffer alone or uniquely.

7. Father, after I have suffered a while, perfect me, establish me, strengthen me, and settle me.

8. Lord, let me stand in the true grace of God. Let me not fall from grace, but be established in it.

DECLARATIONS

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse: 1 Peter 5:7 — “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

Clothed with Humility (Verse 5):

Peter calls all believers to be clothed with humility. Humility is not just an attitude. It is a garment. It is something you put on. It covers you. It protects you. Pride is the opposite. Pride exposes you. Pride makes you vulnerable. And God resists the proud. He actively opposes the proud. But He gives grace to the humble. Grace is the currency of humility. The humble receive grace. The proud receive resistance.

Humble Yourselves (Verse 6):

Humility is not just towards others. It is towards God. You humble yourself under His mighty hand. You acknowledge that He is in control. You submit to His will. You trust His timing. And He will exalt you in due time. Not in your time. Not in your way. In His time. In His way. The exaltation is His work, not yours.

Cast All Your Care (Verse 7):

This is one of the most comforting verses in Scripture. Cast your care upon Him. Your anxiety. Your worry. Your fear. Your burden. Cast it. Throw it. Release it. Do not carry it. Do not hold onto it. Give it to Him. Why? Because He cares for you. He is not indifferent. He is not distant. He cares. He cares deeply. He cares personally. He cares for you.

Be Sober, Be Vigilant (Verse 8):

Peter warns of the adversary. The devil is real. He is not a myth. He is not a metaphor. He is an enemy. He walks about like a roaring lion. He is seeking someone to devour. He is not passive. He is active. He is prowling. He is hunting. So you must be sober and vigilant. Do not be drunk with the world. Do not be asleep. Be alert. Be watchful. Be on guard.

Resist Steadfast in the Faith (Verse 9):

Resistance is not passive. It is active. You resist the devil. You do not run from him. You do not surrender to him. You stand against him. And you do it steadfastly — firmly, unshakably. You do it in faith. Not in your own strength. Not in your own courage. In faith. Faith in God. Faith in His power. Faith in His victory.

Afflictions Accomplished in Your Brethren (Verse 9):

You are not suffering alone. The same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren. Others are going through the same thing. Others have gone through it before. You are not unique in your suffering. The family of God shares in suffering. And they share in victory.

The God of All Grace (Verse 10):

God is the God of all grace. Not just some grace. All grace. He has called you to His eternal glory. It is not a temporary call. It is an eternal call. It is not a small call. It is a glorious call. And after you have suffered a while — a little while, a short time — He will perfect you. He will establish you. He will strengthen you. He will settle you. Suffering is not the end. Restoration is the end.

Question for the Day:

Are you clothed with humility, or are you proud? Are you casting your care upon the Lord, or are you carrying it yourself? Are you sober and vigilant, or are you asleep to the enemy’s schemes? And are you trusting God to perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you after your suffering?
