BASIC SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 38:1-8 (KJV)

In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.

Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD,
-
And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying,
-
Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.

And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.

And this shall be a sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he hath spoken;

Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.

PRAYER POINTS

Father, when I am sick unto death, let me turn my face toward You and pray. Let me not despair but seek Your face.

Lord, remember how I have walked before You in truth and with a perfect heart. Let my life be a testimony of faithfulness.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION
Key Verse: Isaiah 38:5 — “Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.”
The Sickness and the Sentence (Verse 1):
Hezekiah was sick unto death. He was a good king. He had served the Lord faithfully. He had brought reform to Judah. But he was facing death. The prophet Isaiah came to him with a direct message from the Lord: “Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.” There was no hope given. There was no promise of healing. There was only the sentence of death. Hezekiah was told to get his affairs in order. His time was up.
The Prayer (Verses 2-3):
Hezekiah did not argue with the prophet. He did not dispute the message. He turned his face toward the wall and prayed. He did not pray a long prayer. He prayed a short, desperate prayer. He reminded God of his faithfulness. He said, “Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight.” And he wept sore. He was not just sad. He was broken. His tears were real. His prayer was sincere.
The Tears (Verse 5):
God saw his tears. God heard his prayer. The Lord sent Isaiah back with a new message. The sentence was reversed. God said, “I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.” The tears moved God. The prayer reached heaven. God changed His decree. He added years to Hezekiah’s life.
The Sign (Verses 7-8):
Hezekiah asked for a sign, and God gave an extraordinary one. The sun dial of Ahaz was a shadow clock. The shadow had gone down ten degrees. God promised to bring it back ten degrees. He would turn the shadow backward. It was a miracle. It was a supernatural sign. God was reversing what seemed permanent. He was turning back time. The shadow went back ten degrees. Hezekiah’s healing was confirmed by a cosmic sign. The sun obeyed its Creator. The Creator answered His servant’s prayer.
The Deliverance (Verse 6):
God also promised to deliver Hezekiah and the city from the king of Assyria. Hezekiah’s healing was not just for him. It was also for the nation. His life was tied to the life of the people. His deliverance was part of God’s plan for Judah. Your healing is not just for you. It is for those around you. It is for your family. It is for your generation.
The Added Years:
Hezekiah was given fifteen more years. He used those years well. He served God. He led the nation. He wrote songs of praise. His life was extended for God’s glory. But later, he made mistakes. He showed the Babylonians his treasures. He was proud. He was foolish. Even with added years, he was still human. The extra years did not make him perfect. They gave him more time to serve and more time to struggle. Use your added days wisely.
Question for the Day:
Have you faced a sentence of death? Have you prayed and wept before God? Do you believe that He hears your prayer and sees your tears? And are you using the days He gives you to serve Him and declare His praise?
