Esther 4:11 (KJV)

¹¹ All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.

Esther 5:1-14 (KJV)

¹ Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.

² And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.

³ Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.

⁴ And Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him.

⁵ Then the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that he may do as Esther hath said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

⁶ And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.

⁷ Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is;

⁸ If I have found favour in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to morrow as the king hath said.

⁹ Then went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai.

¹⁰ Nevertheless Haman refrained himself: and when he came home, he sent and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife.

¹¹ And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

¹² Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to morrow am I invited unto her also with the king.

¹³ Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.

¹⁴ Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.

Esther 4:11: The Cost of Courage
Esther faced a life-or-death decision. The law of the Persian Empire was absolute: anyone who approached the king without being summoned would be put to death, unless the king extended his golden sceptre. Esther had not been called to the king in thirty days—meaning she had no guarantee of favor. This was a moment of crisis that required extraordinary courage. To approach the king uninvited was to risk her life. Yet Esther understood that silence was not an option—her people were facing annihilation, and she was positioned for such a time as this (Esther 4:14).

Esther 5:1-2: Favour Found
“On the third day, Esther put on her royal apparel.” The mention of “the third day” is significant—it suggests a period of fasting and prayer (Esther 4:16). Esther prepared herself, dressed in her royal garments, and stepped into the king’s presence. When the king saw her, “she obtained favour in his sight.” The king held out the golden sceptre, and Esther touched it. This was a moment of divine favor—God had gone before her and softened the king’s heart. This teaches us that when we step out in faith, God’s favor goes before us.

Esther 5:3-8: Wisdom and Timing
The king offered Esther up to half his kingdom—a lavish promise. But Esther did not make her request immediately. Instead, she invited the king and Haman to a banquet. Even at the banquet, she did not make her request but invited them to another banquet the next day. This demonstrates wisdom and patience. Esther did not rush; she waited for God’s perfect timing. She understood that some matters require preparation and strategic patience. She was not impulsive but prayerful and deliberate.

Esther 5:9-14: The Pride of Haman
Haman left the banquet “joyful and with a glad heart” —his pride was inflated. He was honored by the queen’s invitation and felt secure in his position. But when he saw Mordecai refusing to bow to him, his joy turned to rage. Haman’s pride was wounded, and he became obsessed with revenge. He boasted of his riches, his children, and his promotion, but “Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.” This reveals the emptiness of pride—no amount of success can satisfy a heart filled with bitterness and envy. Haman’s wife and friends advised him to build a gallows for Mordecai, and he was pleased with the plan. Little did he know that the gallows he built would be used for him (Esther 7:10). Pride goes before destruction!

1. Courage to Step Out in Faith

• Pray: Lord, give me the courage of Esther. When I face impossible situations, help me to step out in faith, even when the cost is high. Let me not be paralyzed by fear but moved by faith. I will not remain silent when Your people need me to speak.

2. Favor in the Presence of Kings

• Pray: Father, I ask for Your favor to go before me. Just as Esther found favor in the king’s sight, let me find favor with those in authority. Open doors that no one can shut. Let Your favor surround me like a shield.

3. Wisdom to Wait on God’s Timing

• Pray: Lord, give me wisdom to know when to speak and when to wait. Help me not to rush ahead of You but to trust Your perfect timing. Let me be patient and strategic, seeking Your guidance in every decision.

4. Humility Over Pride

• Pray: Father, deliver me from the spirit of pride. Let me not boast in my own accomplishments or become bitter when others are honored. Keep my heart humble and my eyes fixed on You. Pride goes before destruction—I choose humility.

• Pray: Lord, heal every wounded place in my heart. Help me not to be easily offended or consumed by bitterness. Just as Haman’s offense destroyed him, let me release every offense and walk in forgiveness and peace.

6. Trust God for Vindication

• Pray: Father, I trust You to vindicate me. I will not take revenge into my own hands. You see every injustice, and You will make all things right in Your time. I release every situation into Your hands.

7. Pray for Divine Reversal

• Pray: Lord, just as Haman’s plot was reversed, I pray for divine reversal in every situation where the enemy has planned evil against me. Turn the tables, Lord! What the enemy meant for evil, turn it for good.

• Pray: Father, I thank You that You have positioned me for such a time as this. Help me to recognize my divine assignment and to fulfill it with courage, wisdom, and faith. I will not miss my moment!

Declare These Truths Over Your Life:

1. I have the courage of Esther! I will not be silent when God calls me to speak. I step out in faith, even when the cost is high. Fear has no hold on me!

2. I find favor wherever I go. Just as Esther found favor in the king’s sight, I find favor with God and man. Doors of opportunity open before me!

3. God’s favor is my portion. The golden sceptre of God’s grace is extended toward me. I receive His favor, His mercy, and His blessings!

4. I walk in wisdom and patience. I do not rush ahead of God. I wait for His perfect timing. I am strategic, prayerful, and deliberate in my decisions!

5. I am free from pride and offense. I do not boast in my own accomplishments. I do not become bitter when others are honored. I walk in humility and grace!

6. I release every offense. I will not let bitterness take root in my heart. I forgive as Christ forgave me. I am free from the poison of unforgiveness!

7. God is my vindicator. I do not take revenge. The Lord fights for me. Every plan of the enemy against me will be reversed!

8. What the enemy meant for evil, God turns for good! Every plot, every scheme, every trap set against me will be turned around for my victory!

9. I am positioned for such a time as this! God has placed me in my family, my workplace, my church, and my nation for a divine purpose. I will fulfill my destiny!

10. Pride will not destroy me. I walk in humility before God and man. I honor others and give glory to God alone. I am safe in His presence!

11. My joy does not depend on others’ recognition. I find my joy in the Lord. Even when others don’t honor me, I am secure in His love. My worth is in Christ!

12. Today, I walk in divine favor, wisdom, and courage! I am not afraid. I am not offended. I am not proud. I am a vessel of God’s grace and power!

💬 ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

The story of Esther is one of the most powerful examples of courage, wisdom, and divine reversal in Scripture.

Esther was a young Jewish woman who became queen of Persia. When a decree was issued to annihilate her people, she faced a terrifying choice: approach the king uninvited and risk death, or remain silent and watch her people perish. Her cousin Mordecai challenged her: “Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14). Esther rose to the occasion. She fasted, prayed, and stepped into the king’s presence with boldness.

What happened next is remarkable:

• She found favor in the king’s sight

• She used wisdom in her timing, not rushing her request

• Haman’s pride became his downfall

• The gallows built for Mordecai became Haman’s own execution place

This story reveals God’s hidden hand—though His name is never mentioned in the book of Esther, His fingerprints are everywhere. He orchestrated events, softened hearts, and turned a plot of destruction into a story of deliverance.
