BASIC SCRIPTURE: PSALM 27: 7- 14

BASIC SCRIPTURE: PSALM 27:7-14 (KJV)

7. Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.

8. When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.

9. Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

10. When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

11. Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.

12. Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.

13. I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

14. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, hear me when I cry with my voice. Let my cry not go unheard in Your courts. Have mercy upon me and answer me.

2. Lord, when You say “Seek ye my face,” let my heart respond immediately: “Thy face, LORD, will I seek.” Let me be a seeker of Your presence above all else.

3. Father, hide not Your face from me. Though I have sinned and fallen short, do not put me away in anger. You have been my help — leave me not, neither forsake me.

4. Lord, when my father and mother forsake me — when every human support fails — take me up. Be my Father when natural fathers fail.

5. Father, teach me Your way. Lead me in a plain path because of my enemies. Let me not walk in confusion while enemies surround me.

6. Lord, deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies. Every false witness risen up against me, silence them by Your power. Let not the cruel breathe out destruction over my life.

7. Father, I would have fainted unless I believed to see Your goodness in the land of the living. Let that belief be strong in me today. I will not faint.

8. Lord, teach me to wait on You. Give me good courage. Strengthen my heart as I wait. I say again, wait on the LORD.

DECLARATIONS

1. I declare that the Lord hears me when I cry. He has mercy on me and answers me. My voice is not ignored in heaven.

2. When the Lord says “Seek my face,” my heart says “Thy face, LORD, will I seek.” I am a seeker of His presence.

3. The Lord does not hide His face from me. He does not put me away in anger. He is my help. He will not leave me nor forsake me.

4. Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will take me up. I am not alone. I am not abandoned.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse: Psalm 27:14 — “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”

David’s Cry and David’s Confidence:

In verse 7, David cries out desperately: “Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.” This is raw, urgent prayer. David is not pretending to be strong. He is admitting his need. But his cry is not rooted in doubt. It is rooted in confidence. He believes God hears. He believes God answers.

The Response to God’s Command (Verse 8):

“When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.” God commands us to seek His face. David’s heart responds immediately. There is no hesitation. There is no delay. The moment God says “Seek,” David says “I will.” This is the mark of a true seeker — not someone who waits until circumstances are convenient, but someone whose heart leaps at the command of God.

Hide Not Thy Face (Verse 9):

David fears one thing more than his enemies — the hiding of God’s face. He would rather be pursued by enemies than abandoned by God. He knows that God’s presence is his only real protection. He pleads, “Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger.” He clings to God’s mercy, not his own merit.

The Promise of Divine Fatherhood (Verse 10):

“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.” David speaks of the worst human abandonment. Even parents — the most natural source of love and protection — can fail. But God’s love is deeper than nature. When human fathers and mothers walk away, God lifts you up. He adopts you. He takes you in. He is the Father who never leaves.

Teach Me Thy Way (Verse 11):

David does not ask for escape from his enemies. He asks for guidance through them. “Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.” He knows that the greatest danger is not the enemy outside but confusion inside. If he walks in God’s way, the enemy cannot destroy him. The plain path is the safe path — even when surrounded by enemies.

Deliver Me Not (Verse 12):

David prays against being handed over to the will of his enemies. False witnesses have risen against him. Cruel people are breathing out threats. But David does not fight back. He prays. He trusts God to be his defender. He knows that God is the only one who can truly deliver him.

I Had Fainted (Verse 13):

This is one of the most honest verses in Scripture: “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” David admits he was on the edge of collapse. He was fainting. He was losing heart. But something held him up — not his own strength, not his circumstances, but his belief. He believed he would see God’s goodness. Not in heaven, but in the land of the living. Not after death, but before it. That belief kept him standing.

Wait on the Lord (Verse 14):

The psalm ends with a command to himself: “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” David preaches to his own soul. He tells himself to wait. He commands himself to be courageous. And he reminds himself of the promise: God will strengthen his heart. Waiting is not passive. It is active trust. It is refusing to give up. It is holding on to God when everything else is letting go.

Are you fainting? Have you been on the edge of collapse? Do not give up. Believe to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on Him. Be of good courage. He will strengthen your heart.
