BASIC SCRIPTURE: ACTS 2:38-47

BASIC SCRIPTURE: ACTS 2:38-47 (KJV)

38. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

40. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

41. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

42. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

43. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

44. And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

45. And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

46. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

47. Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, let me repent of every sin and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of my sins.

2. Lord, I receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Fill me afresh with Your Spirit today.

3. Father, I thank You that the promise of the Spirit is for me, for my children, and for all whom You shall call.

4. Lord, save me from this untoward generation. Let me not be conformed to the world but transformed by Your Word.

5. Father, let me continue steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine, in fellowship, in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

6. Lord, let wonders and signs follow my life. Let Your power be evident in me.

7. Father, let me be of one accord with my brothers and sisters. Let me have singleness of heart and gladness.

DECLARATIONS

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse: Acts 2:47 — “Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

Repent and Be Baptized (Verse 38):

Peter’s message was clear. Repent. Turn from sin. Change your mind. Change your direction. Change your life. Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Baptism is not just a ritual. It is identification. It is death to the old life. It is resurrection to the new life. It is a public declaration of faith. It is a step of obedience. And it is for the remission of sins. It is a symbol of being washed clean. It is a symbol of being made new. It is the first step of obedience.

The Gift of the Holy Ghost (Verse 38):

Repentance and baptism are followed by the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is not earned. It is a gift. It is not a reward. It is a promise. It is the promise of the Father. It is the presence of God. It is the power of God. It is the seal of God. It is the guarantee of our inheritance. It is the deposit of our salvation.

The Promise (Verse 39):

The promise is not limited. It is for you. It is for your children. It is for those who are far off. It is for as many as the Lord our God shall call. There is no restriction. There is no exclusion. There is no boundary. The Spirit is for everyone who responds to the call. The promise is universal. It is available.

Save Yourselves (Verse 40):

Peter exhorted them to save themselves from this untoward generation. It is not salvation by works. It is salvation by response. They were to separate themselves. They were to turn away. They were to refuse to be conformed. They were to choose the kingdom over the world. They were to choose the Spirit over the flesh. They were to choose the new creation over the old corruption.

Gladly Received (Verse 41):

Those who gladly received the word were baptized. They were not forced. They were not coerced. They were not pressured. They gladly received. They embraced the message. They believed the truth. They submitted to the command. And they were added. Three thousand souls were added that day. It was a harvest. It was a movement. It was the beginning of the church.

They Continued Steadfastly (Verse 42):

The early church did not just have a moment. They continued. They persevered. They were steadfast. They were devoted. They were committed. They were faithful. They continued in four things: the apostles’ doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers. These were the pillars of their faith. These were the practices of their community. These were the marks of their devotion.

Wonders and Signs (Verse 43):

Awe came upon every soul. It was not just excitement. It was reverence. It was fear. It was wonder. It was awe. And many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. The power of God was evident. The presence of God was real. The supernatural was normal. The miraculous was ordinary.

All Things Common (Verse 44-45):

The believers were united. They shared everything. They held all things common. They sold their possessions. They distributed to those in need. They did not hoard. They did not hold back. They were generous. They were sacrificial. They were loving. They were practical. They were community.

With One Accord (Verse 46-47):

They were daily in the temple. They were daily in each other’s homes. They were of one accord. They were united in heart. They were united in purpose. They were united in worship. They ate with gladness and singleness of heart. They praised God. They had favour with the people. The Lord added daily to the church. It was a movement of God. It was a community of love. It was a witness to the world. The Lord added daily. It was His work. It was His harvest. It was His glory.

Question for the Day:

Have you repented and been baptized? Have you received the gift of the Holy Ghost? Are you continuing steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers? And are you praising God with singleness of heart?
