BASIC SCRIPTURE: 2 KINGS 13 : 1-25

2 KINGS 13:1-25 (KJV)

1 In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.

2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

3 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, all their days.

4 And Jehoahaz besought the LORD, and the LORD hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.

5 (And the LORD gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.

6 Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)

7 Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.

8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

9 And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.

10 In the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.

11 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked therein.

12 And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

13 And Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

14 Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.

15 And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.

16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands.

17 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD’S deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.

18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.

19 And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.

20 And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.

21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

22 But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

23 And the LORD was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.

24 So Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his stead.

25 And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.

DECLARATIONS (Based on 2 Kings 13:1-25 KJV)

(Speak these aloud in faith)

1. I declare that even when I have done evil and walked in sin, the Lord hearkens to my cry when I beseech Him. His mercy is greater than my rebellion. *(2 Kings 13:2-4)*

2. I declare that the Lord sees my oppression. He sees when the enemy has made me like dust by threshing. He will not leave me in the hand of the oppressor forever. (2 Kings 13:4, 7)

3. I declare that the Lord gives me a Saviour—a deliverer. I will go out from under the hand of the enemy and dwell in my tent again, as beforetime. (2 Kings 13:5)

4. I declare that I will not despise the dying prophet. I will honor the men and women of God even in their weakness. They are the chariot of Israel and the horsemen thereof. (2 Kings 13:14)

5. I declare that I will take the bow and arrows of God’s word and prophecy. I will put my hand upon the bow, and the Lord will put His hands upon my hands. *(2 Kings 13:15-16)*

6. I declare that I open my window eastward—toward the rising sun, toward God’s mercy, toward my deliverance. I will not look backward to my past defeats. (2 Kings 13:17)

7. I declare that every arrow I shoot in faith is the arrow of the LORD’S deliverance. I shall smite my enemies till I have consumed them—not just wounded them. (2 Kings 13:17)

8. I declare that I will not smite the ground three times and stay. I will smite five times, six times—until the enemy is completely consumed. I refuse the spirit of partial obedience and limited vision. *(2 Kings 13:18-19)*

9. I declare that even in death, the anointing remains. The bones of Elisha raised a dead man. The power of God does not die with His servants. Resurrection power is alive. *(2 Kings 13:20-21)*

10. I declare that the Lord is gracious, compassionate, and faithful to His covenant. He will not destroy me nor cast me from His presence because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—and because of the blood of Jesus, my covenant. (2 Kings 13:23)

PRAYER POINTS

1. Pray for mercy when you have walked in sin and rebellion.

• *Father, Jehoahaz did evil in Your sight, yet when he besought You, You hearkened unto him. Lord, I confess my sins and the sins of my house. I have walked in ways that displeased You. But I beseech You today: hear my cry. Let Your mercy override my rebellion. (2 Kings 13:2-4)*

2. Pray that the Lord sees your oppression and raises a saviour.

• *Lord, You saw the oppression of Israel because the king of Syria oppressed them. You see my oppression today. You see the enemy that has threshed me like dust. Raise up a saviour for me—a deliverer, a breakthrough, an answer. Let me go out from under the hand of the enemy and dwell in my tent again. (2 Kings 13:4-5)*

3. Pray for the spirit of repentance that departs from sin, not just cries for help.

• Father, Israel received deliverance but did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam. Forgive me for crying to You for help while holding onto my sin. Give me the grace to depart from every Jeroboam sin—every besetting sin, every idol, every compromise that has made me to sin. (2 Kings 13:6)

4. Honor the dying prophets in your life.

• Lord, Joash came down to Elisha when he was sick and dying, and he wept over him, saying, “O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.” Lord, I honor the spiritual fathers and mothers You have placed over me. Let me not wait until they are gone to weep. Let me honor them while they live. (2 Kings 13:14)

5. Take the bow and arrows—receive prophetic direction.

• *Father, Elisha said, “Take bow and arrows.” Lord, I take the bow of Your word and the arrows of Your prophetic promises. I will not go to battle without them. Put Your hands upon my hands as Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands. Let Your aning guide my every shot. (2 Kings 13:15-16)*

6. Open the window eastward—pray for a new direction.

• Lord, I open my window eastward. I turn away from the west of defeat, the north of coldness, and the south of complacency. I look toward the rising sun—toward Your mercies, toward Your deliverance, toward Your glory. Shine upon me, O God. Let my eastward window be the place of my breakthrough. (2 Kings 13:17)

7. Shoot the arrow of the LORD’S deliverance over specific battles.

• Lord, I shoot the arrow of the LORD’S deliverance today over [name your specific battle—Syria, sickness, debt, fear, addiction, family strife]. This is the arrow of deliverance from the enemy. I shall smite the enemy in Aphek—at the very place of his strength—till I have consumed him. Not just wounded. Consumed. (2 Kings 13:17)

8. Repent for smiting the ground only three times and staying.

• *Father, Joash smote the ground three times and stayed. The man of God was wroth with him. Forgive me for stopping too soon in prayer, in warfare, in faith, in giving, in serving. Forgive me for the spirit of “three times and enough.” I repent. Today, I will smite five times, six times—until the enemy is consumed. (2 Kings 13:18-19)*

9. Pray for the resurrection anointing that touches dead bones.

• *Father, a dead man was cast into Elisha’s sepulchre, and when he touched Elisha’s bones, he revived and stood on his feet. Lord, let the resurrection anointing of Your departed servants still work in my generation. Let dead things in my life revive. Let dead dreams, dead marriages, dead businesses, dead ministries stand up on their feet. (2 Kings 13:20-21)*

10. Pray in the covenant—God’s faithfulness to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Jesus.

• Father, the LORD was gracious to Israel and had compassion on them because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I stand on the covenant—not on my goodness, but on Your faithfulness. I claim the blood of Jesus, the new covenant. Because of this covenant, do not destroy me. Do not cast me from Your presence. Be gracious unto me today. (2 Kings 13:23)

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY

I have sinned, but I beseech the Lord, and He hearkens unto me. He sees my oppression. He gives me a Saviour. I will not despise the dying prophet. I take the bow and arrows of God’s word. I open my window eastward. I shoot the arrow of the LORD’S deliverance over every Syria in my life. I will not smite the ground three times and stay. I will smite five times, six times—until the enemy is consumed. Even the bones of the prophet carry resurrection power. Dead things shall revive. The Lord is gracious and compassionate because of His covenant. I am not destroyed. I am not cast from His presence. Three times may be the enemy’s limit, but I serve a God of complete consumption. The cities I have lost, I recover. The enemy I have faced, I consume. Amen.
