BASIC SCRIPTURE: WEDNESDAY, 16TH SEPTEMBER 2026 — PSALM 91:1-10 (KJV)
-
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
-
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
-
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
-
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
-
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
-
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
-
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
-
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
-
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
-
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — WEDNESDAY, 16TH SEPTEMBER 2026
Key Verse: Psalm 91:1 — “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
The Secret Place (Verse 1):
The psalm begins with a promise. It is for those who dwell in the secret place of the Most High. The secret place is a place of intimacy. It is a place of fellowship. It is a place of communion. It is a place of prayer. It is a place of worship. It is a place of trust. It is a place of hiding. It is a place of protection. It is a place of rest. It is a place of safety. The secret place is not a physical location. It is a spiritual reality. It is being in the presence of God. It is being in the will of God. It is being in the care of God. Those who dwell there abide under the shadow of the Almighty. They are overshadowed by His presence. They are covered by His power. They are protected by His love. They are sheltered by His grace. They are secure in His care.
My Refuge and My Fortress (Verse 2):
The psalmist makes a personal declaration. “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” This is not just a general statement. It is a personal confession. It is a personal commitment. It is a personal declaration. God is my refuge. He is my hiding place. He is my shelter. He is my protection. He is my fortress. He is my stronghold. He is my defense. He is my salvation. He is my God. I trust in Him. I rely on Him. I depend on Him. I hope in Him. I believe in Him. I commit to Him.
Deliverance from Snares and Pestilence (Verse 3):
God delivers from the snare of the fowler. The fowler is the enemy. He sets traps. He lays snares. He uses deception. He uses temptation. He uses schemes. He uses strategies. He tries to catch the unwary. He tries to trap the unsuspecting. He tries to ensnare the careless. But God delivers. He sees the trap. He knows the snare. He exposes the scheme. He breaks the net. He rescues the captive. He sets the prisoner free. He also delivers from the noisome pestilence. Pestilence is disease. It is plague. It is sickness. It is destruction. It is deadly. It spreads. It destroys. It kills. But God delivers. He protects. He preserves. He heals. He saves.
Covered by His Feathers (Verse 4):
The psalmist uses a beautiful image. God covers us with His feathers. Under His wings we trust. This is an image of a mother bird protecting her young. She covers them. She shelters them. She warms them. She shields them. She protects them. They are safe under her wings. The truth of God is our shield and buckler. His truth protects us. His truth defends us. His truth guards us. His truth secures us.
No Fear (Verses 5-6):
Because God protects, we do not fear. We are not afraid of the terror by night. Night is a time of fear. It is a time of darkness. It is a time of danger. It is a time of vulnerability. It is a time of attack. But we do not fear. We are not afraid of the arrow that flieth by day. Day is a time of activity. It is a time of work. It is a time of exposure. It is a time of conflict. It is a time of attack. But we do not fear. We are not afraid of the pestilence that walks in darkness. We are not afraid of the destruction that wastes at noonday. We are not afraid. God is our protector. God is our shield. God is our fortress.
A Thousand Shall Fall (Verse 7-8):
A thousand may fall at your side. Ten thousand at your right hand. Destruction may be all around. Death may be near. Disaster may be close. But it will not come near you. You will be protected. You will be preserved. You will be saved. You will be alive. Only with your eyes will you see the reward of the wicked. You will see their fate. You will see their judgment. You will see their destruction. But you will not share it. You will be spared. You will be delivered.
No Evil Shall Befall You (Verses 9-10):
The promise is repeated. Because you have made the Lord your refuge. Because you have made the Most High your habitation. Because you dwell in Him. Because you abide in Him. Because you trust in Him. No evil will befall you. No plague will come near your dwelling. You will be safe. You will be secure. You will be protected. You will be preserved. You will be alive. You will be blessed. You will be saved.
