BASIC SCRIPTURE: COLOSSIANS 4:1-6

BASIC SCRIPTURE: THURSDAY, 17TH SEPTEMBER 2026 — COLOSSIANS 4:1-6 (KJV)

1. Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.

2. Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

3. Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:

4. That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.

5. Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

6. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

PRAYER POINTS — THURSDAY, 17TH SEPTEMBER 2026

1. Father, help me to treat those under my authority with justice and fairness, knowing that I also have a Master in heaven.

2. Lord, help me to continue in prayer and to watch in the same with thanksgiving.

3. Father, open unto me a door of utterance to speak the mystery of Christ boldly and clearly.

4. Lord, help me to make the gospel manifest as I ought to speak.

5. Father, give me wisdom to walk toward those who are without, redeeming the time.

6. Lord, let my speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that I may know how to answer every man.

7. Father, let my words bring life, seasoning, and grace to those who hear them.

8. Lord, help me to use every opportunity wisely for the sake of the gospel.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — THURSDAY, 17TH SEPTEMBER 2026

Key Verse: Colossians 4:6 — “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”

Masters and Servants (Verse 1):

Paul addresses masters. They are to give their servants what is just and equal. They are to be fair. They are to be righteous. They are to be equitable. They are to treat their servants with dignity and respect. They are not to exploit them. They are not to abuse them. They are not to oppress them. Why? Because they also have a Master in heaven. They are not the highest authority. They are accountable. They are under authority. They answer to God. They are to reflect His character. They are to act as He acts. They are to treat others as He treats them.

Continue in Prayer (Verse 2):

Paul commands them to continue in prayer. Prayer is not optional. It is essential. It is not occasional. It is continual. It is to be persistent. It is to be consistent. It is to be constant. It is to be continual. And watch in the same with thanksgiving. They are to be watchful. They are to be alert. They are to be vigilant. They are to be awake. They are to be aware. They are to be attentive. They are to be on guard. They are to be ready. And they are to give thanks. Thanksgiving is to accompany prayer. It is to be part of prayer. It is to be an attitude of prayer.

Pray for Open Doors (Verses 3-4):

Paul asks for prayer. He asks them to pray for him. He wants a door of utterance. He wants an open door to speak. He wants an opportunity to preach. He wants an opportunity to witness. He wants an opportunity to teach. He wants an opportunity to proclaim. He wants to speak the mystery of Christ. The mystery of Christ is the gospel. It is the good news. It is the message of salvation. It is the revelation of God’s plan. It is the hope of the world. Paul is in bonds. He is imprisoned. He is chained. He is restricted. He is confined. But he is not silenced. He wants to speak. He wants to declare. He wants to make the mystery manifest. He wants to proclaim it clearly. He wants to make it known. As he ought to speak. As he should speak. As he is called to speak. Boldly. Faithfully. Clearly. Powerfully.

Walk in Wisdom (Verse 5):

Paul exhorts them to walk in wisdom. They are to live wisely. They are to behave wisely. They are to conduct themselves wisely. They are to be wise in their dealings. They are to be wise in their relationships. They are to be wise in their witness. They are to be wise toward them that are without. Those who are without are unbelievers. They are outside the faith. They are outside the church. They are outside the kingdom. They are to be treated wisely. They are to be approached wisely. They are to be witnessed to wisely. They are to be loved wisely. They are to be served wisely. They are to be reached wisely. And they are to redeem the time. The time is short. The time is precious. The time is valuable. The time is fleeting. It is to be used wisely. It is to be used for the gospel. It is to be used for the kingdom. It is to be used for the glory of God.

Speech with Grace and Salt (Verse 6):

Paul gives a command about speech. Speech is to be with grace. Grace is unmerited favour. It is kindness. It is gentleness. It is love. It is compassion. It is patience. It is understanding. It is forgiveness. Speech is to be gracious. It is to be kind. It is to be loving. It is to be gentle. It is to be humble. It is to be respectful. It is to be edifying. It is to be building up. It is to be encouraging. It is to be comforting. It is to be healing. It is to be life-giving. Speech is to be seasoned with salt. Salt preserves. Salt prevents decay. Salt adds flavour. Salt creates thirst. Salt causes a desire for more. Speech is to be preserved by grace. It is to be pure. It is to be wholesome. It is to be good. It is to be useful. It is to be edifying. It is to be building up. It is to be encouraging. It is to be comforting. It is to be healing. It is to be life-giving. And it is to be effective. We are to know how to answer every man. We are to be prepared. We are to be ready. We are to be equipped. We are to have an answer. We are to give an answer. We are to give a good answer. We are to give a wise answer. We are to give a gracious answer. We are to give a salt-seasoned answer.
