BASIC SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 39:1-10

BASIC SCRIPTURE: FRIDAY, 18TH SEPTEMBER 2026 — GENESIS 39:1-10 (KJV)

1. And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.

2. And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

3. And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

4. And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

5. And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

6. And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.

7. And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.

8. But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;

9. There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

10. And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

PRAYER POINTS — FRIDAY, 18TH SEPTEMBER 2026

1. Father, let Your presence be with me as it was with Joseph. Let me be a prosperous man because You are with me.

2. Lord, let my master see that You are with me, and that You make all that I do to prosper in my hand.

3. Father, let me find grace in the sight of those I serve. Let me be trusted and elevated.

4. Lord, let the blessing of the LORD be upon all that I do, and let others be blessed for my sake.

5. Father, give me the courage to refuse temptation as Joseph did. Let me not be swayed by the allure of sin.

6. Lord, help me to say with Joseph: “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

7. Father, let me hearken not to the voice of temptation, but let me flee from every appearance of evil.

8. Lord, let me be faithful in the small things, so that I may be trusted with great things.

1. I declare that the Lord is with me, and I am a prosperous man. He makes all that I do to prosper.

2. My masters see that the Lord is with me, and they see that He makes all that I do to prosper.

3. I find grace in the sight of those I serve. I am trusted and elevated.

4. The blessing of the Lord is upon all that I do, and others are blessed for my sake.

5. I have the courage to refuse temptation as Joseph did. I am not swayed by the allure of sin.

6. I say with Joseph: “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

7. I do not hearken to the voice of temptation. I flee from every appearance of evil.

8. I am faithful in the small things, and I am trusted with great things.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — FRIDAY, 18TH SEPTEMBER 2026

Key Verse: Genesis 39:9 — “There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

Joseph in Egypt (Verse 1):

Joseph was brought down to Egypt. He was sold as a slave. He was bought by Potiphar. He was taken from his home. He was taken from his family. He was taken from his father. He was taken from his dreams. He was taken from his future. He was in a foreign land. He was in a strange culture. He was in a difficult situation. He was in a place of suffering. He was in a place of testing. But the Lord was with him.

The LORD Was with Joseph (Verses 2-3):

Joseph was a slave. But he was not alone. The Lord was with him. The Lord did not abandon him. The Lord did not forget him. The Lord did not forsake him. The Lord was with him. And because the Lord was with him, he was a prosperous man. He prospered in the house of his master. His master saw that the Lord was with him. His master saw that the Lord made all that he did to prosper. It was evident. It was visible. It was undeniable. The presence of God was upon Joseph. The blessing of God was upon his work. The favor of God was upon his life.

Joseph Found Grace (Verse 4):

Joseph found grace in the sight of Potiphar. He found favor. He found acceptance. He found trust. He was made overseer of the house. All that Potiphar had was put into Joseph’s hand. He was given authority. He was given responsibility. He was given trust. He was faithful. He was capable. He was trustworthy. He was wise.

The Blessing for Potiphar’s Sake (Verse 5):

Potiphar was blessed for Joseph’s sake. The blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house and in the field. Potiphar did not know the Lord. Potiphar did not serve the Lord. Potiphar did not worship the Lord. But he was blessed because of Joseph. He was blessed because Joseph was in his house. He was blessed because Joseph was faithful. He was blessed because Joseph was righteous. He was blessed because Joseph was with the Lord.

Joseph Was a Goodly Person (Verse 6):

Joseph was a goodly person. He was handsome. He was well-favored. He was attractive. He was physically appealing. He was physically desirable. This was not just a blessing. It was a test. It was a temptation. It was a trial. His physical appearance would be used by the enemy to try to destroy him.

The Temptation (Verses 7-9):

Potiphar’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph. She desired him. She wanted him. She pursued him. She said, “Lie with me.” She was persistent. She was aggressive. She was seductive. She was persuasive. She was powerful. She was the master’s wife. She had authority. She had influence. She had power. She could have destroyed Joseph. She could have had him killed. She could have had him imprisoned. But Joseph refused. He refused her advances. He refused her seduction. He refused her temptation. He refused her offer. He refused her demand. He refused her pressure. He refused her persistence.

Joseph’s Response (Verse 9):

Joseph gave a powerful response. He was grateful. He was loyal. He was faithful. He recognized the trust his master had placed in him. He had been given everything. Nothing was kept from him except her. She was his master’s wife. He would not betray his master. He would not betray his master’s trust. He would not betray his master’s honor. He would not betray his master’s marriage. But more than that, he would not sin against God. He recognized the sin. He recognized the wickedness. He recognized the offense. He recognized the consequences. He would not do it. He would not commit this great wickedness. He would not sin against God.

Resisting Day by Day (Verse 10):

The temptation did not stop. Potiphar’s wife spoke to Joseph day by day. She was persistent. She was relentless. She was unrelenting. She would not give up. She would not take no for an answer. She kept pursuing. She kept pressuring. She kept tempting. But Joseph did not hearken to her. He did not listen to her. He did not yield to her. He did not give in to her. He did not lie by her. He did not be with her. He resisted. He refused. He fled. He overcame. He was victorious.

Question for the Day — Friday, 18th September 2026:

Is the Lord with you? Are you prospering because of His presence? Are you faithful in the small things? And when temptation comes, are you able to say, “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
