BASIC SCRIPTURE: NUMBERS 22: 27- 33

BASIC SCRIPTURE: MONDAY, 28TH SEPTEMBER 2026 — NUMBERS 22:27-33 (KJV)

27. And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.

28. And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?

29. And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.

30. And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.

31. Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.

32. And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:

33. And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.

PRAYER POINTS — MONDAY, 28TH SEPTEMBER 2026

1. Father, open my eyes to see the angel of the Lord standing in my way. Let me not be blind to Your warnings.

2. Lord, when my way is perverse before You, let me be stopped. Let Your angel stand in the way and turn me back.

3. Father, deliver me from anger that leads me to strike out at those who are trying to help me.

4. Lord, help me to recognize Your messengers, even when they come in unexpected forms.

5. Father, I repent of every time I have smitten the donkey — every time I have ignored Your warnings.

6. Lord, let me not be like Balaam who was blind to the danger and angry at the deliverance.

7. Father, open my eyes to the spiritual realities around me. Let me see Your protection and Your warnings.

8. Lord, let me bow down my head and fall flat on my face before You in humility and repentance.

DEC LARATIONS — MONDAY, 28TH SEPTEMBER 2026

1. I declare that my eyes are open to see the angel of the Lord standing in my way. I am not blind to God’s warnings.

2. When my way is perverse before God, I am stopped. His angel stands in the way and turns me back.

3. I am delivered from anger that leads me to strike out at those trying to help me.

4. I recognize God’s messengers, even when they come in unexpected forms.

5. I repent of every time I have ignored God’s warnings. I will not smite the donkey.

6. I am not like Balaam who was blind to the danger and angry at the deliverance.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — MONDAY, 28TH SEPTEMBER 2026

Key Verse: Numbers 22:32 — “And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me.”

The Ass and the Angel (Verses 27-28):

Balaam was riding his donkey. The angel of the Lord stood in the way with a drawn sword. Balaam could not see the angel. But the donkey could. The donkey saw the angel. The donkey turned aside. The donkey pressed against the wall. The donkey fell down. The donkey saved Balaam’s life. But Balaam was angry. He beat the donkey. He struck her with his staff. He was frustrated. He was irritated. He was blind. He did not understand. He did not see. He did not perceive. And then the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey. She spoke. She asked Balaam, “What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?” She questioned him. She challenged him. She confronted him.

Balaam’s Anger (Verse 29):

Balaam answered the donkey. He was angry. He was irrational. He was foolish. He said, “Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.” He wanted to kill the donkey. He wanted to destroy the one who had saved his life. He wanted to slay the faithful servant who had protected him. He was blinded by his anger. He was blinded by his ambition. He was blinded by his greed. He could not see the truth. He could not see the danger. He could not see the angel. He could only see his own frustration.

The Donkey’s Defense (Verse 30):

The donkey responded. She reminded Balaam of her faithfulness. “Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee?” She had always been faithful. She had always been obedient. She had always been reliable. She had never acted this way before. She had never turned aside. She had never pressed against the wall. She had never fallen down. Something was different. Something was wrong. Balaam had to admit, “Nay.” She had never done this before. Her behavior was a warning. Her behavior was a sign. Her behavior was a message from God.

The Opened Eyes (Verse 31):

The Lord opened Balaam’s eyes. He saw the angel of the Lord. He saw the drawn sword. He saw the danger. He saw the truth. He bowed down his head. He fell flat on his face. He was humbled. He was broken. He was terrified. He was repentant. He had been blind. Now he saw. He had been foolish. Now he understood. He had been angry. Now he was ashamed.

The Angel’s Question (Verse 32):

The angel asked Balaam, “Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times?” The angel rebuked Balaam. He asked him why he had beaten the donkey. The donkey had done nothing wrong. The donkey had done everything right. The donkey had saved his life. The donkey had been faithful. The donkey had been obedient. The donkey had been wise. But Balaam had beaten her. He had struck her. He had abused her. The angel said, “Behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me.” Balaam’s way was perverse. His path was crooked. His direction was wrong. His motive was impure. His heart was corrupt. He was going the wrong way. He was pursuing the wrong thing. He was following the wrong path. And the angel was sent to withstand him. To stop him. To turn him back. To prevent him from making a terrible mistake.

The Donkey Saved Balaam (Verse 33):

The angel said, “And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.” The donkey saved Balaam’s life. If she had not turned aside, Balaam would have been killed. If she had not stopped, Balaam would have been slain. If she had not been faithful, Balaam would have been destroyed. The donkey was the instrument of God’s protection. The donkey was the vessel of God’s warning. The donkey was the means of God’s deliverance. And Balaam had beaten her. He had abused her. He had tried to kill her. He had been ungrateful. He had been foolish. He had been blind.

Is your way perverse before God? Are you angry at those who are trying to help you? Are you blind to the warnings God is sending you? Has God opened your eyes to see His protection and His warnings? And are you grateful for the donkeys He has placed in your life?
