BASIC SCRIPTURE: DEUTERONOMY 28:1-13

BASIC SCRIPTURE: DEUTERONOMY 28:1-13 (KJV)

1. And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

2. And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

3. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

4. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

5. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.

6. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

7. The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.

8. The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

9. The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.

10. And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee.

11. And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

12. The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

13. And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, help me to hearken diligently to Your voice and to observe and do all Your commandments.

DECLARATIONS

1. I declare that I hearken diligently to the voice of the Lord and I observe and do all His commandments.

2. All these blessings come upon me and overtake me because I obey the voice of the Lord.

3. I am blessed in the city and blessed in the field. I am blessed wherever I go.

4. The fruit of my body, my ground, and my cattle is blessed. My labour is fruitful.

5. My basket and my store are blessed. There is abundance in my household.

6. I am blessed when I come in and when I go out. God’s favour surrounds me at all times.

7. My enemies are smitten before my face. They come out one way and flee seven ways.

8. The Lord makes me the head and not the tail. I am above only and not beneath.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse: Deuteronomy 28:1 — “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.”

The Condition of Blessing (Verse 1):

The chapter begins with a condition. “If thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments.” Blessing is not automatic. It is conditional. It is based on obedience. It is based on listening. It is based on doing. Diligently. Carefully. Faithfully. Not selectively. Not occasionally. Not partially. All His commandments. Complete obedience. Wholehearted obedience. Persistent obedience. The promise follows: “The LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.”

Blessings That Overtake You (Verse 2):

The blessings will come upon you. They will overtake you. You will not have to chase them. They will chase you. They will pursue you. They will catch up with you. They will overtake you. They will not miss you. They will not pass you by. They will find you. They will embrace you. They will cover you. They will surround you. You will be overwhelmed with blessing. Obedience opens the door. Obedience releases the flood.

Blessed in Every Place (Verses 3-6):

The blessings are comprehensive. Blessed in the city. Blessed in the field. Blessed in the city and in the country. Everywhere you go, blessing follows. Everywhere you are, blessing abounds. Blessed in your family. The fruit of your body. Blessed in your work. The fruit of your ground. Blessed in your possessions. The fruit of your cattle. Blessed in your provision. Your basket and your store. Blessed in your comings and goings. Blessed in all your movements. Blessed in all your activities. Blessed in all your relationships. Blessed in all your labour. Blessed in all your life.

Victory Over Enemies (Verse 7):

The Lord will cause your enemies to be smitten before your face. They will come out against you one way. They will flee before you seven ways. God will fight for you. God will defeat your enemies. God will scatter them. God will put them to flight. God will give you victory. You will not be defeated. You will not be overcome. You will not be destroyed. Your enemies will run. Your enemies will retreat. Your enemies will be defeated.

Commanding the Blessing (Verse 8):

The Lord will command the blessing upon you. He will not just give it. He will command it. It is not random. It is ordered. It is intentional. It is powerful. It is purposeful. It is certain. It is upon your storehouses. It is upon all that you set your hand unto. Your work is blessed. Your investments are blessed. Your efforts are blessed. Your projects are blessed. Your enterprises are blessed.

An Holy People (Verse 9):

The Lord will establish you as a holy people. You are set apart. You are consecrated. You are dedicated. You are His. You are called by His name. All people will see it. They will see that you are the Lord’s. They will fear you. They will respect you. They will recognize God’s presence in your life. They will recognize God’s power in your life. They will recognize God’s blessing on your life.

The Head and Not the Tail (Verse 13):

You will be the head. You will be the leader. You will be the influencer. You will be the one who sets the direction. You will be the one who determines the course. You will be above only. You will not be beneath. Not beneath circumstances. Not beneath enemies. Not beneath poverty. Not beneath defeat. Not beneath the world. Not beneath the system. You will be above. Because God is above. And He is with you. He will make you the head.

Question for the Day:

Are you hearkening diligently to the voice of the Lord? Are you observing and doing His commandments? Are you walking in obedience? And are you experiencing the blessings that follow obedience? Are you the head and not the tail?
