BASIC SCRIPTURE: HOSEA 4: 1-7

BASIC SCRIPTURE: WEDNESDAY, 9TH SEPTEMBER 2026 — HOSEA 4:1-7 (KJV)

1. Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

2. By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.

3. Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

4. Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.

5. Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.

6. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

7. As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.

PRAYER POINTS — WEDNESDAY, 9TH SEPTEMBER 2026

1. Father, let there be truth, mercy, and knowledge of God in my life and in this land. Let me not be part of a generation that lacks these things.

2. Lord, I repent of every sin that has broken out in my life — swearing, lying, killing, stealing, and adultery. Let me be cleansed and restored.

3. Father, let me not fall in the day or in the night. Let me not be destroyed for lack of knowledge.

4. Lord, help me to receive knowledge and not reject it. Let me not be rejected by You because I have rejected Your truth.

5. Father, let me not forget the law of my God. Let me not be forgotten by You because I have forgotten Your ways.

6. Lord, I repent of every sin that has increased as I have increased. Let me not exchange Your glory for shame.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — WEDNESDAY, 9TH SEPTEMBER 2026

Key Verse: Hosea 4:6 — “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”

The LORD’s Controversy (Verse 1):

Hosea begins with a solemn call. “Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel.” God has a controversy with His people. He is bringing a charge against them. The accusation is serious. There is no truth. There is no mercy. There is no knowledge of God in the land. These are the foundations of a godly society. They are missing. They are absent. They are destroyed.

The Sins of the People (Verse 2):

The people are guilty of a litany of sins. Swearing — taking God’s name in vain. Lying — deceit and falsehood. Killing — murder and violence. Stealing — theft and robbery. Committing adultery — sexual immorality and unfaithfulness. They break out. They break through. They break all boundaries. Blood touches blood. Violence begets violence. Sin spreads like a disease. There is no restraint. There is no shame. There is no turning back.

The Judgment (Verses 3-5):

The land mourns. The people languish. The beasts of the field suffer. The birds of the sky die. The fish of the sea disappear. The creation suffers because of the sin of humanity. There is a connection between the moral state of a people and the physical state of the land. Sin brings judgment. Judgment brings destruction. And the priests and prophets are not exempt. They fall too. The people strive with the priest. They reject correction. They refuse reproof. And judgment falls on all.

Destroyed for Lack of Knowledge (Verse 6):

This is one of the most powerful verses in Scripture. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” The destruction is not because of external enemies. It is because of internal ignorance. The people do not know God. They do not know His ways. They do not know His word. They do not know His will. And they are destroyed. They have rejected knowledge. They have refused instruction. They have turned away from truth. And God rejects them. He will not accept their priests. He will not accept their offerings. He will not accept their worship. They have forgotten the law of their God. And He will forget their children.

Glory Turned to Shame (Verse 7):

The people increased. They multiplied. They prospered. They grew in number and in wealth. But as they increased, they sinned against God. Their prosperity did not lead to gratitude. It led to pride. It led to rebellion. It led to idolatry. It led to sin. And God will change their glory into shame. Their prosperity will become a curse. Their abundance will become a judgment. Their glory will become shame. Sin always leads to shame. Pride always leads to a fall. Rejection of God always leads to destruction.
