SIGNS OF THE END OF THE AGE Matthew 24: 1-14

SIGNS OF THE END OF THE AGE Matthew 24: 1-14

Bible Reading: Matthew 24: 1-14

24 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Notice the contrast between the disciples’ question and Jesus answer. What did His answer trigger in the disciples’ mind (v.3)? In these last days, we need vigilance. “Watch out” (v.4). The most subtle deception will not come from other religions or ideologies. It will be from people who claim to be Christians, who come in Jesus’s name (5.5). We have today the problem of many Christian sects and cults. Other evils that will mark the end time are wars, famines (poor economy) and earthquakes (natural calamities). These examples do not exhaust the list (v.8). Note v.6b for a strong encouragement. Certain things will happen to the church (vs.9-13). Severe persecution will lead to the death of some believers and the falling away of many others. There are some who will stay on but with no zeal or love for the things of God (v.12). Amid all these, believers are called  to do two things:

  1. Endure (or stand firm) to the end (v.13). This is the only way we can continue to keep our salvation. PRAYERS FOR THE LAST DAY OF THE YEAR

2.  Preach the gospel in the entire world as a witness to all the nations. This is what will usher in the end.

Missions: TUNISIA-In earlier centuries the Christian Church was widespread but Schism, heresy, failures to put roots deep into the local culture and to translate the Bible into local languages, foreign invasions and finally Islam brought about its demise. JESUS film is available in two translations – Standard Arabic and Tunisian Arabic. Pray that a living, growing Church might become a reality again in this land.
