BASIC SCRIPTURE: LUKE 18:1-8 (KJV)

1. And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

2. Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:

3. And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

4. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

5. Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

6. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.

7. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

8. I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, teach me to pray always and not to faint. Let me not grow weary in prayer, no matter how long the answer delays.

2. Lord, I come to You as the widow came to the unjust judge. I bring my case before You. Avenge me of mine adversary.

3. Father, I will not stop coming to You. I will not be silenced. I will not give up. I will continue to cry out until You answer.

4. Lord, I thank You that You are not like the unjust judge. You are not unjust. You are not uncaring. You hear me and You will answer.

5. Father, I am Your elect. I cry day and night unto You. Let Your vengeance come speedily against every enemy that oppresses me.

6. Lord, though You bear long with me, I know You will avenge me. Let me not lose heart in the waiting.

7. Father, when the Son of man comes, let me be found in faith — not doubting, not wavering, but believing.

8. Lord, let my prayers be persistent, my faith unwavering, and my hope unshaken until the answer comes.

DECLARATIONS

1. I declare that I will pray always and not faint. I will not grow weary in prayer.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse: Luke 18:1 — “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.”

The Purpose of the Parable (Verse 1):

Jesus told this parable to teach that men ought always to pray and not to faint. Prayer is not optional. It is essential. And it is persistent. It does not stop when the answer is delayed. It does not give up when the situation seems hopeless. It continues. It endures. It persists. And it does not faint. Fainting means losing heart, giving up, collapsing under the weight of discouragement. Persistent prayer does not faint.

The Unjust Judge (Verse 2):

The judge in the parable feared not God and regarded not man. He was unjust. He was uncaring. He had no regard for justice or mercy. He was the worst kind of judge. He was selfish. He was corrupt. He did not care about the widow or her case. He had no reason to help her.

The Persistent Widow (Verse 3):

There was a widow in that city. She was vulnerable. She had no husband to defend her. She had no influence. She had no power. She had only her persistence. She came to the judge and said, “Avenge me of mine adversary.” She had an enemy. She had a case. And she would not stop coming until she got justice.

The Judge’s Response (Verses 4-5):

The judge would not help her for a while. He ignored her. He dismissed her. But she kept coming. She kept asking. She kept demanding. Finally, the judge said, “Though I fear not God, nor regard man; yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.” He gave her justice not because he was just, but because he was tired of her persistence. Her continual coming wore him down. She refused to give up.

The Lesson (Verse 6-7):

Jesus says, “Hear what the unjust judge saith.” If an unjust judge will grant justice because of persistence, how much more will a just and loving God answer His elect who cry day and night unto Him? God is not unjust. He is not uncaring. He is not indifferent. He hears His people. He answers His people. He will avenge them speedily. He will not delay forever.

The Elect Who Cry Day and Night:

God’s elect are those who belong to Him. They cry to Him day and night. They do not stop. They do not give up. They keep praying. They keep asking. They keep seeking. And God hears them. He bears long with them — but He will answer. He will avenge. He will act.

The Question of Faith (Verse 8):

Jesus ends with a sobering question: “Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” The question is not whether God will answer. The question is whether believers will keep believing until He comes. Will they keep praying? Will they keep trusting? Will they keep hoping? When Jesus returns, will He find faith on the earth? Will He find it in you?

Question for the Day:

Are you praying always and not fainting? Or have you given up because the answer has not come? Will you keep coming to God like the persistent widow, refusing to be silent, refusing to give up? And when the Son of man comes, will He find faith in you?
