BASIC SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 40:21-31 (KJV)

21. Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

22. It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

23. That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.

24. Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.

25. To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.

26. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

27. Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?

28. Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

29. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

31. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, open my eyes to know and understand who You are. Let me not be ignorant of Your greatness and Your power.

2. Lord, I behold You as the One who sits upon the circle of the earth. Let the inhabitants of the earth — including my enemies — be as grasshoppers before You.

3. Father, You bring princes to nothing and make judges as vanity. Let every human authority that opposes Your purpose be blown away like stubble.

4. Lord, I lift up my eyes on high. I behold the stars and the heavens You have created. You call them all by name — You know my name too.

5. Father, forgive me for every time I have said, “My way is hid from the LORD.” I repent of thinking You have forgotten me.

6. Lord, I receive the truth that You are the everlasting God. You do not faint. You are not weary. Your understanding is unsearchable.

7. Father, I come to You as one who is faint. I have no might. Give me power. Increase my strength.

8. Lord, I wait upon You. Renew my strength. Let me mount up with wings as an eagle. Let me run and not be weary. Let me walk and not faint.

DECLARATIONS

1. I declare that I know and understand who God is. He sits upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants are as grasshoppers before Him.

2. Princes are brought to nothing. Judges are as vanity. No human authority stands before the Lord.

3. I lift up my eyes on high. The Creator who calls the stars by name knows my name. He is strong in power, and not one of His purposes fails.

4. My way is not hidden from the LORD. He sees me. He knows me. He has not passed over my judgment.

5. I have known and I have heard — the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint and is not weary.

6. God gives power to the faint. To me who has no might, He increases strength.

7. Though youths faint and young men fall, I wait upon the LORD. My strength is not in my youth; my strength is in my waiting.

8. My strength is renewed. I mount up with wings as an eagle. I run and am not weary. I walk and do not faint.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse: Isaiah 40:31 — “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Have You Not Known? Have You Not Heard? (Verse 21):

Isaiah asks four questions in rapid succession. “Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?” The questions are rhetorical. The answer is yes. Israel had known. They had heard. They had been told. They had understood. But they had forgotten. They had allowed their circumstances to cloud their knowledge of God. Isaiah is calling them back to what they already know. Sometimes the greatest need is not new revelation but remembering what you already know.

The Circle of the Earth (Verse 22):

God sits upon the circle of the earth. The word “circle” suggests the horizon — God is above the earth, looking down. The inhabitants are like grasshoppers — small, weak, insignificant in comparison. He stretches out the heavens like a curtain, spreading them like a tent. This is a picture of God’s vastness. He is not contained by the earth. He is not limited by human boundaries. He is the Creator, and we are His creatures.

Princes to Nothing (Verses 23-24):

God brings princes to nothing. He makes the judges of the earth as vanity. They may be powerful for a season, but they are not permanent. They are not planted. They are not sown. Their stock does not take root. God blows upon them, and they wither. The whirlwind takes them away as stubble. Human power is fleeting. Divine power is eternal. Do not put your trust in princes. Put your trust in the Lord.

To Whom Then Will Ye Liken Me? (Verse 25):

The Holy One asks a question that demands an answer. Who is like God? No one. Nothing. There is no comparison. There is no equal. All human systems, all political powers, all religious figures, all philosophies — none can stand beside Him. He is incomparable. He is unique. He is alone in His majesty.

Lift Up Your Eyes on High (Verse 26):

Look up. Look at the stars. See the host of heaven. God brought them out by number. He calls them all by name. Not one fails. The greatness of His might keeps them in place. If He can do that with the stars, He can do that with your life. The same God who names the stars knows your name. The same God who keeps the stars in orbit can keep you in His hand.

Why Sayest Thou, O Jacob? (Verse 27):

God confronts Israel’s complaint: “My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God.” They felt forgotten. They felt overlooked. They felt that God had abandoned them to their enemies. But the problem was not God’s attention. The problem was their perspective. God had not hidden His face. They had hidden theirs in self-pity.

Hast Thou Not Known? Hast Thou Not Heard? (Verse 28):

Again, the rhetorical questions. The answer is yes. They had known. They had heard. God is the everlasting God. He is the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint. He is not weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He is not weak. He is not tired. He is not confused. He is all-powerful, ever-present, and all-wise.

He Giveth Power to the Faint (Verse 29):

This is the good news. God gives power to those who have none. He increases strength to those who are weak. You do not have to be strong to come to God. You just have to be empty. He fills the empty. He strengthens the weak. He empowers the powerless.

Even the Youths Shall Faint (Verse 30):

Human strength is not enough. Even the young, the energetic, the vibrant — they will faint. They will be weary. They will fall. Human strength has a limit. It always does. You cannot rely on your youth, your health, your resources, or your energy. They will fail. They always do.

But They That Wait Upon the LORD (Verse 31):

This is the turning point. Not those who strive. Not those who struggle. Not those who rely on their own strength. But those who wait. Waiting is an act of trust. It is admitting that you cannot do it on your own. It is resting in God’s timing and God’s power. And the promise is renewal. Strength is renewed. You mount up with wings as eagles — rising above the storm. You run and are not weary — enduring the race. You walk and do not faint — persevering in the ordinary days.

Question for the Day:

Have you forgotten who God is? Are you relying on your own strength and finding it failing? Stop striving. Stop struggling. Wait on the Lord. Let Him renew your strength. Rise above the storm. Run without weariness. Walk without fainting.
