ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — FRIDAY, 16TH OCTOBER 2026
Key Verse (Mark): Mark 3:14 — “And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach.”
Key Verse (Matthew): Matthew 17:2 — “And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.”
He Calls Whom He Wills (Mark 3:13):
Jesus went up into a mountain. He called unto Him whom He would. He did not call everyone. He did not call the qualified. He did not call the impressive. He did not call the powerful. He called whom He would. The call was His choice. The call was His decision. The call was His sovereign will. And they came unto Him. They responded. They obeyed. They followed. They left everything. They left their nets. They left their families. They left their businesses. They left their comfort. They came unto Him.
Ordained to Be with Him (Mark 3:14):
Jesus ordained twelve. He appointed twelve. He set apart twelve. He chose twelve. Why? Two reasons. First, that they should be with Him. Before they were sent out, they were to be with Him. Before they preached, they were to learn. Before they ministered, they were to be discipled. Before they served, they were to sit at His feet. Intimacy precedes ministry. Relationship precedes service. Being comes before doing. They were to be with Him. To walk with Him. To talk with Him. To learn from Him. To watch Him. To know Him. To love Him.
Sent Forth to Preach (Mark 3:14-15):
Second, He ordained them that He might send them forth. To preach. To heal. To cast out devils. They were not called to stay on the mountain forever. They were not called to remain in the upper room. They were not called to hide in the wilderness. They were called to go. They were called to preach. They were called to heal. They were called to deliver. They were called to minister. They were called to serve. They were called to reach the world. They were called to make disciples. They were called to build the kingdom. They were called to glorify God. Intimacy with Jesus leads to mission for Jesus. Time with Him leads to work for Him. Being with Him leads to going for Him.
The Twelve (Mark 3:16-19):
Jesus chose twelve men. They were ordinary men. They were fishermen. They were tax collectors. They were zealots. They were nobodies. They were uneducated. They were unimpressive. They were unimportant. But Jesus chose them. He named them. He appointed them. He sent them. He empowered them. He used them. Simon He surnamed Peter. James and John He surnamed Boanerges, sons of thunder. Andrew. Philip. Bartholomew. Matthew. Thomas. James the son of Alphaeus. Thaddaeus. Simon the Canaanite. Judas Iscariot. Twelve men. Imperfect men. Flawed men. Broken men. But chosen men. Called men. Ordained men. Sent men. Used men.
The Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-2):
Jesus took Peter, James, and John. He took them up into a high mountain apart. He took them away from the crowd. He took them away from the noise. He took them away from the distractions. He took them to a place of solitude. A place of separation. A place of revelation. And He was transfigured before them. His face did shine as the sun. His raiment was white as the light. He was revealed in His glory. He was revealed in His majesty. He was revealed in His deity. They saw Him as He truly is. They saw His glory. They saw His beauty. They saw His power. They saw His light.
The Lesson for Us:
Jesus still calls whom He wills. He still chooses the unlikely. He still uses the imperfect. He still transforms the ordinary. He still calls us to be with Him before He sends us out. He still calls us to intimacy before ministry. He still calls us to know Him before we serve Him. And He still reveals His glory to those who seek Him. He still takes us up to the high mountain apart. He still shows us His face. He still shines His light upon us. He still transforms us by His presence. The question is not whether He calls. The question is whether we respond. The question is not whether He chooses. The question is whether we follow. The question is not whether He reveals. The question is whether we seek. He calls. He chooses. He sends. He reveals. He transforms. Are you responding? Are you following? Are you seeking?
Question for the Day — Friday, 16th October 2026:
Are you spending time with Jesus before you serve Him? Are you allowing intimacy to precede ministry? And are you seeking His glory on the high mountain apart?
