BASIC SCRIPTURE: JOHN 20:19-23 (KJV)

Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.

Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

PRAYER POINTS
-
Father, when fear has shut the doors of my heart, let Jesus stand in my midst and speak peace to my troubled soul.

Lord, when I see Your hands and Your side — the evidence of Your suffering and victory — let my fear turn to gladness.

Father, I receive Your peace again. Let it settle every anxiety, every doubt, and every torment in my heart.
-
Lord, as the Father sent You, so send me. Let me embrace my assignment without fear, knowing that You are with me.
-
Father, I receive the Holy Ghost. Breathe upon me afresh today. Fill me with Your Spirit and empower me for Your work.
-
Lord, give me the authority to remit and retain sins — not as a judge, but as a steward of Your grace.
-
Father, let me proclaim forgiveness to those who repent and warn those who refuse. Let me walk in the authority of Christ.
-
Lord, let the peace of Your presence replace the fear of the world in my life.
DECLARATIONS
-
I declare that the peace of Christ is upon me. Though the doors are shut and fear surrounds me, Jesus stands in my midst and says, “Peace be unto you.”

I look upon the hands and side of my Saviour. His suffering is my salvation. His victory is my peace.
-
I receive the peace of Christ again and again. It is not the world’s peace — it is His peace, and it rules in my heart.

As the Father sent Jesus, so Jesus sends me. I go in His name, with His authority, and with His purpose.
-
I receive the Holy Ghost. The breath of Christ fills me. I am empowered for every work and equipped for every battle.
-
I walk in the authority to remit and retain sins. I proclaim forgiveness to the repentant and warning to the unrepentant.
-
I am not sent alone. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in me. I go with power.
-
I will not live in fear. The peace of Christ has overcome the fear of the world.

The Shut Doors (Verse 19):
The disciples were assembled behind closed doors. They were afraid of the Jews. The fear of man had shut them in. They were hiding. They were paralyzed. They were waiting. And then, in that locked room, Jesus appeared. He did not need an open door. He came through the walls. He came into their fear. He came into their hiding place. The doors could not keep Him out. And He said, “Peace be unto you.” The first word from the risen Christ was peace.
The Proof (Verse 20):
He showed them His hands and His side. The wounds were still visible. The scars were still there. He did not come in glory that erased the marks of suffering. He came with the evidence of His death. He came as the crucified and risen Lord. And when they saw Him, they were glad. The proof of His suffering was the source of their joy. The wounds brought peace.
The Second Peace (Verse 21):
He said it again: “Peace be unto you.” One peace was not enough. He repeated it. He wanted it to sink in. He wanted them to receive it fully. Then He said, “As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.” The peace was not just for comfort. It was for commissioning. You cannot be sent if you are still afraid. You cannot go if you are still hiding. The peace of Christ is the foundation of the mission.
The Breath (Verse 22):
He breathed on them and said, “Receive ye the Holy Ghost.” This was not the Pentecost outpouring. That would come later. This was a foretaste. This was a commissioning breath. The breath of Christ brings life. The breath of Christ brings power. The breath of Christ brings the Spirit. He breathes on you today. Receive the Holy Ghost.
The Authority (Verse 23):
“Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.” This is a staggering authority. Jesus gives His disciples the power to declare forgiveness and to withhold it. This is not a license to be arbitrary. It is a stewardship of the gospel. You proclaim forgiveness to those who repent. You warn of judgment to those who refuse. You carry the message of reconciliation. You speak on behalf of Christ.
Fear to Gladness:
The disciples went from fear to gladness in a moment. The presence of Christ changed everything. The same presence that brought peace also brought joy. The same presence that calmed their hearts also commissioned their lives. You do not have to stay in fear. The risen Christ is in your midst. He is saying, “Peace be unto you.”
Question for the Day:
Are you hiding behind shut doors of fear? Is the fear of man keeping you from your assignment? Open the door. Let Jesus stand in your midst. Receive His peace. Receive His Spirit. Receive His commission. Go as He was sent.
