BASIC SCRIPTURE: PROVERBS 4:5-13 (KJV)

  1. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

  2. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

  3. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

  4. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

  5. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

  6. Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

  7. I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

  8. When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

  9. Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

PRAYER POINTS

  1. Father, give me wisdom and understanding. Let me not forget Your words nor decline from them.

  2. Lord, let me not forsake wisdom, for she shall preserve me. Let me love her, and she shall keep me.

  3. Father, I receive that wisdom is the principal thing. Let me get wisdom, and with all my getting, let me get understanding.

  4. Lord, I exalt wisdom. Let her promote me and bring me to honour when I embrace her.

  5. Father, let wisdom give to my head an ornament of grace and a crown of glory.

  6. Lord, I hear Your sayings and receive them. Let the years of my life be many.

  7. Father, teach me in the way of wisdom and lead me in right paths. Let my steps not be straitened, and let me not stumble when I run.

DECLARATIONS

  1. I declare that I get wisdom and understanding. I will not forget the words of God nor decline from them.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse: Proverbs 4:7 — “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

Get Wisdom, Get Understanding (Verse 5):

The command is repeated twice for emphasis. Get wisdom. Get understanding. It is not optional. It is not a suggestion. It is a command. And it is connected to forgetting not and declining not from God’s words. You cannot get wisdom apart from God’s word. The two are inseparable. The word of God is the source of wisdom. To get wisdom, you must get the word. To get understanding, you must meditate on the word.

Forsake Her Not (Verse 6):

Wisdom is personified as a woman. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve you. Love her, and she shall keep you. Wisdom is not just information. She is a protector. She guards you from danger. She preserves you from destruction. She keeps you on the right path. Those who embrace wisdom are protected by wisdom.

Wisdom Is the Principal Thing (Verse 7):

Wisdom is not secondary. It is not optional. It is the principal thing. It is the first thing. It is the most important thing. It is above wealth, above status, above reputation, above pleasure. Everything else is secondary. Get wisdom first. Get understanding above all else. Everything else will follow.

Exalt Her (Verse 8):

Exalt wisdom. Lift her up. Give her the highest place in your life. Do not hide her. Do not ignore her. Lift her up, and she will promote you. She will bring you to honour. When you embrace wisdom, she embraces you. When you honour wisdom, she honours you.

An Ornament of Grace (Verse 9):

Wisdom gives an ornament of grace to your head. Grace is not just unmerited favour. It is attractiveness, beauty, and elegance. Wisdom makes you gracious. It makes you appealing. It gives you favour with God and man. And she gives a crown of glory — not just a reward, but a crown. Wisdom leads to honour and glory.

The Years of Thy Life Shall Be Many (Verse 10):

Hear and receive God’s sayings, and your years shall be many. Wisdom is not just for the next life. It is for this life. It prolongs your days. It protects you from the things that destroy. It leads you on the path of life. The years of the wise are not just long; they are good.

The Right Paths (Verse 11):

God teaches us in the way of wisdom. He leads us in right paths. He does not leave us to figure it out on our own. He guides us. He instructs us. He shows us the way. And when we walk in His paths, our steps are not straitened — they are not cramped or restricted. There is freedom. There is space. There is room to move. And when we run, we do not stumble. We are steady. We are secure.

Take Fast Hold of Instruction (Verse 13):

Instruction is not optional. It is essential. Take fast hold of it. Do not let it go. Keep it. It is your life. Not just your wisdom, but your life. The instruction of God is not a burden. It is life itself. To reject instruction is to reject life. To embrace instruction is to embrace life.

Question for the Day:

Have you gotten wisdom? Is it the principal thing in your life? Do you exalt her, embrace her, and take fast hold of her? And are you receiving the instruction of God as your very life?
