BASIC SCRIPTURE 2OTH OCTOBER 2026 BIBLE READING PRAYER POINTS AND DECLARATIONS

BASIC SCRIPTURES: GENESIS 48:19; 1SAMUEL 24: 1-12
BASIC SCRIPTURE: TUESDAY, 20TH OCTOBER 2026 — GENESIS 48:19 (KJV)
-
And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.
BASIC SCRIPTURE: 1 SAMUEL 24:1-12 (KJV)
-
And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi.
-
Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.
-
And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave.
-
And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe privily.
-
And it came to pass afterward, that David’s heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.
-
And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD’s anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the LORD’s anointed.
-
So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
-
David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.
-
And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men’s words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?
-
Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD’s anointed.
-
Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.
-
The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — TUESDAY, 20TH OCTOBER 2026
Key Verse (Genesis): Genesis 48:19 — “But truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.”
Key Verse (1 Samuel): 1 Samuel 24:6 — “And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD’s anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him.”
I Know It, My Son, I Know It (Genesis 48:19):
Israel was old. He was blind. But he was not confused. He was not mistaken. He was not senile. He knew exactly what he was doing. Joseph had tried to correct him. Joseph had tried to rearrange his hands. Joseph had tried to put the right hand on the firstborn. But Israel refused. He said, “I know it, my son, I know it.” He knew Manasseh would be great. He knew Manasseh would become a people. But he also knew that Ephraim, the younger, would be greater. He knew that Ephraim’s seed would become a multitude of nations. He was not following tradition. He was not following custom. He was following the Spirit of God. He was following the sovereign choice of God. And he would not be moved.
David and Saul in the Cave (1 Samuel 24:1-3):
Saul was hunting David. He was seeking to kill him. He took three thousand chosen men. He went to the wilderness of Engedi. He searched among the rocks. He came to a cave. He went in to relieve himself. And David and his men were hiding in the sides of the cave. It was a divine appointment. It was a providential setup. It was an opportunity. Saul was in David’s hand. Saul was in David’s power. Saul was in David’s control. The man who was hunting David was now in the hands of the one he hunted. God had delivered him.
The Advice of David’s Men (1 Samuel 24:4):
David’s men saw the opportunity. They said, “Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee.” They encouraged David to kill Saul. They reminded him of God’s promise. They told him this was the day of fulfillment. They told him this was the day of destiny. They told him this was the day of deliverance. They told him to take the opportunity. They told him to seize the moment. They told him to act. They told him to kill.
David’s Restraint (1 Samuel 24:4-5):
David arose. He crept up to Saul. But he did not kill him. He did not harm him. He did not touch him. He only cut off the skirt of his robe. He cut a piece of cloth. He took a token. He proved his proximity. He proved his ability. He proved his restraint. But even that act bothered him. His heart smote him. He was convicted. He was troubled. He was grieved. He had done something small. He had done something minor. He had done something seemingly harmless. But his conscience would not let him rest.
David’s Reverence (1 Samuel 24:6-7):
David said to his men, “The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD’s anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the LORD’s anointed.” David recognised Saul’s position. Saul was the king. Saul was the anointed. Saul was the chosen. Saul was the appointed. Even though Saul was wicked. Even though Saul was unjust. Even though Saul was hunting David. Even though Saul was trying to kill David. David would not touch him. David would not harm him. David would not lift a finger against him. Why? Because he was the LORD’s anointed. Because God had placed him there. Because God had chosen him. Because God had appointed him. And David would not touch God’s anointed. He would not stretch forth his hand. He would not take matters into his own hands. He would not seize the throne by force. He would not kill the king to become king. He would wait. He would trust. He would be patient. He would let God do it in His own time and in His own way.
David’s Testimony (1 Samuel 24:8-12):
David went out of the cave. He called after Saul. He called him “my lord the king.” He bowed himself with his face to the earth. He honoured Saul. He showed him the skirt of his robe. He showed him what he had cut off. He showed him what he could have done. He said, “I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.” He declared his innocence. He declared his faithfulness. He declared his loyalty. And then he said, “The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.” David committed his cause to God. He did not take vengeance. He did not seek revenge. He did not plot retaliation. He left it in God’s hands. He trusted God to judge. He trusted God to avenge. He trusted God to vindicate. And God did.
The Lesson for Us:
There are times when God delivers your enemy into your hands. There are times when you have the opportunity to take revenge. There are times when you have the power to harm. But the question is: will you do it? Will you strike? Will you kill? Will you take vengeance? Or will you restrain? Will you honour? Will you trust? Will you leave room for God? David did not kill Saul. David did not harm Saul. David did not take the throne by force. He waited for God. He trusted God. He honoured God’s anointed. And God honoured David. God made David king. God gave David the throne. God destroyed his enemies. God vindicated him. Do not take matters into your own hands. Do not stretch forth your hand against the LORD’s anointed. Do not repay evil for evil. Do not take revenge. Leave it in God’s hands. He is the judge. He is the avenger. He will vindicate you. And He will do it in His own time and in His own way.
Question for the Day — Tuesday, 20th October 2026:
Have you been tempted to take vengeance on your enemy? Have you been given the opportunity to harm those who harmed you? Will you stretch forth your hand, or will you trust God to be your judge and your avenger?
