BASIC SCRIPTURE: EPHESIANS 4:26-32

BASIC SCRIPTURE: EPHESIANS 4:26-32 (KJV)

26. Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

27. Neither give place to the devil.

28. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

29. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

30. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

31. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

32. And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, teach me to be angry without sinning. Let my anger be righteous, directed at evil and injustice, not at people. Let it not lead me into sin.

2. Lord, I confess every time I have let the sun go down upon my wrath. Forgive me for holding onto anger and letting it fester in my heart.

3. Father, I refuse to give place to the devil. Every foothold of bitterness, unforgiveness, and resentment in my life, I renounce and cast out.

4. Lord, I repent of every form of stealing in my life — whether time, resources, or credit that belongs to others. Let me labour honestly and give generously.

5. Father, let no corrupt communication proceed out of my mouth. Let my words be good for edifying, ministering grace to those who hear.

6. Lord, I ask forgiveness for every time I have grieved the Holy Spirit. Let my words, actions, and attitudes be pleasing to Him.

7. Father, I put away all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour, evil speaking, and malice. I choose to release them completely.

8. Lord, I receive Your grace to be kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving. As You have forgiven me in Christ, let me forgive others.

DECLARATIONS

1. I declare that I can be angry and not sin. My anger is righteous, controlled, and directed against evil, not against people.

2. I will not let the sun go down upon my wrath. I release anger before the day ends.

3. I give no place to the devil. Every foothold of sin in my life is closed. The enemy has no access.

4. I will not steal. I will labour honestly and work with my hands, so I may have to give to those in need.

5. No corrupt communication proceeds from my mouth. My words build up and minister grace to those who hear.

6. I will not grieve the Holy Spirit. I am sealed unto the day of redemption, and I live to honour Him.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse: Ephesians 4:32 — “Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

Be Angry and Sin Not (Verse 26):

Paul does not say, “Do not be angry.” He says, “Be angry, and sin not.” Anger is not always sin. There is a righteous anger. Jesus was angry at the moneychangers in the temple. God is angry at wickedness every day. Anger is an emotion, and emotions are not sinful in themselves. But anger becomes sin when it is uncontrolled, unrighteous, or directed at the wrong target. Paul gives a practical boundary: do not let the sun go down upon your wrath. Deal with your anger before the day ends. Do not let it fester. Do not let it become bitterness.

Neither Give Place to the Devil (Verse 27):

Unresolved anger gives the devil a foothold. It opens a door. It gives him a place to work. He will use that anger to produce bitterness, resentment, division, and even hatred. The best way to close the door is to deal with the anger. Do not let it linger. Do not let it grow. Confess it. Release it. Forgive. Shut the door before the enemy enters.

Let Him That Stole Steal No More (Verse 28):

This command covers more than just theft of property. It includes stealing time, stealing credit, stealing opportunities, stealing reputation. Paul says, “Steal no more.” Instead, labour with your hands, working what is good. And the purpose of your labour is not just to provide for yourself — it is so you may have to give to those in need. The thief becomes a giver. That is the transformation of the gospel.

Let No Corrupt Communication Proceed Out of Your Mouth (Verse 29):

Corrupt communication means rotten, unwholesome, or useless words. It includes gossip, slander, harsh words, lies, and filthy talk. Instead, our words should be good for edifying — building others up. They should minister grace to the hearers. People should be strengthened by what we say. Our words should be a gift to those who hear.

Grieve Not the Holy Spirit (Verse 30):

The Holy Spirit is a person, not a force. He can be grieved. He is sensitive. When we speak corrupt words, when we hold onto anger, when we sin, we grieve Him. Paul reminds us that we are sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption. He is our guarantee. He is our deposit. Do not grieve the One who seals you. Treat Him with honour.

Put Away All Bitterness, Wrath, Anger, Clamour, Evil Speaking, Malice (Verse 31):

Paul lists six things to be put away entirely. Bitterness is the root. Wrath and anger are the outward expressions. Clamour is loud, uncontrolled speech. Evil speaking is slander or insult. Malice is the desire to harm. These are not to be managed. They are to be put away. Completely. Irrevocably. Like taking off dirty clothes and leaving them behind.

Be Kind, Tenderhearted, Forgiving (Verse 32):

The negative list is replaced with positive virtues. Instead of bitterness, kindness. Instead of wrath, tenderheartedness. Instead of malice, forgiveness. And the standard of forgiveness is the highest possible: “even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” You do not forgive by your own strength. You forgive because you have been forgiven. You forgive by the grace you have received. You extend to others what God has extended to you.

Question for the Day:

Is there any anger you are holding onto today? Any bitterness that has taken root? Any corrupt words you have spoken? Any person you need to forgive? Deal with it now. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath. Forgive as you have been forgiven.
