BASIC SCRIPTURE: PSALM 43: 1- 5

BASIC SCRIPTURE: PSALM 43:1-5 (KJV)

1. Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation: O deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man.

2. For thou art the God of my strength: why dost thou cast me off? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

3. O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.

4. Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God.

5. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, I ask You to judge me and plead my cause against every enemy that rises against me. Deliver me from the deceitful and unjust.

DECLARATIONS

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse: Psalm 43:5 — “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”

Judge Me, O God (Verse 1):

The psalmist begins with a plea for justice. “Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation.” He is not asking for personal vengeance. He is asking for divine vindication. He is being oppressed by the deceitful and unjust. He is being wronged. He is being attacked. He is being accused. But he does not take revenge into his own hands. He brings his case to God. He asks God to be his advocate. He asks God to be his judge. He trusts God to plead his cause.

The God of My Strength (Verse 2):

The psalmist acknowledges God as the source of his strength. “For thou art the God of my strength.” He is weak, but God is strong. He is failing, but God is his strength. He is oppressed, but God is his refuge. Yet he asks, “Why dost thou cast me off? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?” He feels abandoned. He feels rejected. He feels like God has forgotten him. He is honest about his feelings. He brings his doubts to God. He does not hide his pain. He does not pretend to be strong. He pours out his heart. He asks the hard questions. And he trusts God to answer.

Send Out Thy Light and Thy Truth (Verse 3):

This is the turning point. The psalmist prays, “O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me.” He does not ask for deliverance from his enemies. He does not ask for vengeance. He asks for light and truth. He wants to be led. He wants to be guided. He wants to know the way. He wants to be brought to God’s holy hill and to His tabernacles. He wants to be in God’s presence. He knows that light and truth are the only way to get there. Light exposes the darkness. Truth exposes the lies. Light and truth lead to God.

Then Will I Go Unto the Altar (Verse 4):

When God sends His light and truth, the psalmist will go to the altar. He will worship. He will praise. He will offer sacrifices. He will come before God with exceeding joy. God is his exceeding joy. Not just his deliverer. Not just his provider. His joy. His greatest joy. His exceeding joy. He will praise God upon the harp. He will worship with music. He will worship with his whole heart. He will worship with gladness.

Why Art Thou Cast Down, O My Soul? (Verse 5):

The psalmist speaks to himself. He preaches to his own soul. He asks himself, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me?” He is honest about his feelings. He is depressed. He is anxious. He is troubled. He is overwhelmed. But he does not stay there. He challenges his own despair. He questions his own discouragement. He refuses to accept defeat.

Hope in God (Verse 5):

He commands his soul to hope. “Hope in God.” Hope is a choice. It is not a feeling. It is a decision. It is an act of the will. He chooses to hope. He chooses to trust. He chooses to believe. He says, “I shall yet praise him.” He looks beyond his present circumstances. He looks to the future. He knows that things will change. He knows that joy will come. He knows that deliverance will come. He knows that he will praise God again.

The Health of My Countenance (Verse 5):

God is the health of his countenance. God puts a smile on his face. God restores his joy. God lifts his head. God brings life to his soul. God is the one who makes his face shine. God is the one who gives him strength. God is the one who restores his hope. God is his God.

Question for the Day:

Do you bring your case to God when you are oppressed? Do you ask for His light and truth to lead you? Are you preaching to your own soul when it is cast down? Are you choosing to hope in God and to praise Him even before the deliverance comes?
