16. Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.

41. And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

42. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

43. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

44. For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, let my words be timely and appropriate. Let me not be loud and empty, but wise and measured.

2. Lord, deliver me from being a contentious person. Let me be a peacemaker, not a troublemaker.

3. Father, let me give with a pure heart and right motives. Let me not give for show or recognition.

4. Lord, let me be like the poor widow — giving from my want, not just from my abundance.

5. Father, teach me to give sacrificially. Let me not hold back what You ask me to give.

The Loud Blessing (Proverbs 27:14):

This proverb warns against insincere flattery. A loud blessing, given too early and too loudly, is not a blessing at all. It is a curse. It is hypocritical. It is self-serving. The words may sound good. The volume may seem enthusiastic. But the motive is wrong. It is not about the friend. It is about the speaker. It is about seeking favour. It is about being noticed. It is about manipulation. A blessing that is loud but empty is not a blessing. It is a curse.

The Contentious Woman (Proverbs 27:15-16):

This proverb uses a vivid image: a continual dropping on a rainy day. Drip. Drip. Drip. It is annoying. It is exhausting. It is wearing. It never stops. It is relentless. A contentious person is like that. They are constantly arguing. They are always complaining. They are never satisfied. They are always critical. They are like a leaky roof. They wear you down. They drain your strength. They steal your peace. Verse 16 says that containing such a person is like trying to hold back the wind or restrain oil. It is impossible. They cannot be controlled. They cannot be changed by human effort.

The Treasury (Mark 12:41):

Jesus sat over against the treasury. He watched people give. He saw them. He observed their giving. He did not just watch the amount. He watched the heart. He watched the motive. He watched the sacrifice. He watched the attitude. Many rich people gave much. They gave large sums. They gave publicly. They gave proudly. They gave out of their abundance. It cost them little. It cost them nothing. They gave from their surplus. They did not miss it. They were not impacted. They gave and went on.

The Poor Widow (Mark 12:42):

A poor widow came. She was not rich. She was not prominent. She was not noticed. She was insignificant. She was vulnerable. She was alone. She had no husband to provide for her. She had no money to spare. She had only two mites. They were the smallest coins in circulation. They were worth less than a penny. It was nothing. It was everything. She threw them in. She gave all she had. She gave her whole living.

The Verdict (Mark 12:43-44):

Jesus called His disciples. He told them the truth. “This poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury.” How could that be? She gave so little. They gave so much. But God does not measure by amount. He measures by sacrifice. He measures by proportion. He measures by heart. The rich gave out of their abundance. They gave what they did not need. They gave what they would not miss. They gave a percentage. They gave a portion. They gave a fraction. The widow gave all she had. She gave her whole living. She gave everything. Her two mites were worth more than all their riches. Her sacrifice was greater than all their gifts.

The Lesson:

God sees the heart. He sees the motive. He sees the sacrifice. He sees the love. He sees the faith. He sees the trust. He sees the surrender. He sees what others do not see. He values what others do not value. He honours what others ignore. He rewards what others overlook. The size of the gift does not matter. The heart of the giver matters. The sacrifice matters. The faith matters. The love matters.

Question for the Day:

Do you give for show or for God? Do you give out of your abundance or out of your want? Do you give from your surplus or from your substance? Does God see your giving as a sacrifice or as a routine?
