And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?

And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.

And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.

And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.

Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.

And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.

After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.

And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.

Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.

PRAYER POINTS

Father, when I come seeking You, let me find that the stone is rolled away. Let every obstacle to Your presence be removed.

Lord, I thank You that You are risen. Let the reality of Your resurrection fill my heart with hope and power.

Father, remove every fear from my heart. Let me not be affrighted by angels or amazed by circumstances.

Lord, let me go and tell others that You are risen. Let me not keep the good news to myself.

Father, forgive me for every time I have doubted the testimony of Your witnesses. Let me believe Your Word.

Lord, I receive Your resurrection power. Let me walk in newness of life.

Father, let me see the empty tomb and believe. Let me not be like the disciples who believed not.

Lord, remove every hardness of heart and unbelief from me. Let me believe and receive all that You have promised.
DECLARATIONS

I declare that the stone is rolled away. Every obstacle to God’s presence is removed from my life.

Jesus is risen. He is not here. The tomb is empty. Death is defeated.

I will not be afraid. I will not be amazed by circumstances. I trust in the risen Lord.

I go and tell others that Jesus is risen. I will not keep the good news to myself.

I repent of every doubt and unbelief. I believe the testimony of God’s witnesses.

The Women at the Tomb (Verses 1-4):
Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome came to the tomb. They came early in the morning. They came to anoint Jesus’ body. They came with spices. They came with love. They came with devotion. But they came with a problem. They said, “Who shall roll us away the stone?” The stone was great. It was heavy. It was sealed. It was impossible for them to move. But when they arrived, the stone was already rolled away. God had gone before them. He had prepared the way. He had removed the obstacle. They did not have to move the stone. They just had to come.
The Angel’s Message (Verses 5-7):
The angel was seated on the right side. He was clothed in a long white garment. The women were afraid. They were affrighted. But the angel said, “Be not affrighted.” He gave them the greatest news ever given. “Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here.” He is risen. Not He will rise. He is risen. It is done. It is finished. It is accomplished. The tomb is empty. Jesus is alive. Then the angel gave them a command: “Go your way, tell his disciples and Peter.” Peter was singled out. Peter had denied Him. Peter had failed. Peter had fallen. But Peter was still loved. Peter was still included. Peter was still called. The message was for Peter too. It was a message of grace. It was a message of restoration. It was a message of hope.
The Fear and the Silence (Verse 8):
The women fled. They trembled. They were amazed. They were afraid. They said nothing to anyone. They were silent. They were overwhelmed. They did not obey the command. They were paralyzed by fear. But God did not give up on them. He did not reject them. He still used them. He still appeared to them. He still sent them. Their failure did not stop His purpose.
The First Appearance (Verses 9-10):
Jesus appeared first to Mary Magdalene. Out of her He had cast seven devils. She had been delivered. She had been healed. She had been transformed. She was the first to see the risen Lord. She was the first to receive the message. She was the first to be commissioned. She went and told the others. She testified. She witnessed. She proclaimed. But they did not believe her.
The Unbelief (Verses 11-13):
The disciples did not believe. They mourned. They wept. They were in grief. They were in despair. They were in unbelief. They heard the testimony of Mary. They heard the testimony of the two who walked with Jesus in the country. And they believed not. Their hearts were hard. Their minds were closed. Their faith was weak. They refused to believe the witnesses. They refused to believe the women. They refused to believe the evidence. They were stuck in their unbelief.
The Rebuke (Verse 14):
Jesus appeared to the eleven. He upbraided them. He rebuked them. He confronted their unbelief. He confronted their hardness of heart. He confronted their refusal to believe the witnesses. He did not excuse them. He did not overlook it. He confronted it. He corrected it. He called them to faith.
The Empty Tomb:
The tomb is empty. Death could not hold Him. The stone could not stop Him. The soldiers could not guard Him. The grave could not contain Him. He is risen. He is alive. He is victorious. He is Lord. The empty tomb is the foundation of our faith. It is the assurance of our salvation. It is the guarantee of our resurrection. It is the hope of our future. Because He lives, we shall live also.

Do you believe that Jesus is risen? Or is your heart still hard with unbelief? Have you received the message of His resurrection? Are you going and telling others? Are you like Peter — restored and included despite your failure?
