BASIC SCRIPTURE: LUKE 19:1-10

BASIC SCRIPTURE: TUESDAY, 22ND SEPTEMBER 2026 — LUKE 19:1-10 (KJV)

1. And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

2. And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

3. And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

4. And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

5. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

6. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

7. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

8. And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

9. And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

10. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

PRAYER POINTS — TUESDAY, 22ND SEPTEMBER 2026

1. Father, give me the determination of Zacchaeus to seek Jesus, no matter the obstacles or the crowd.

2. Lord, help me to overcome every hindrance that stands between me and seeing You.

3. Father, let me climb above the crowd and the distractions to get a clear view of Jesus.

4. Lord, when You call me by name, let me make haste and come down. Let me receive You joyfully.

5. Father, let me not be discouraged by the murmuring of others when You choose to visit me.

6. Lord, give me a repentant heart like Zacchaeus. Let me make restitution where I have wronged others.

7. Father, let salvation come to my house today. Let me be counted as a son of Abraham by faith.

8. Lord, I thank You that the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost. You came for me.

Zacchaeus the Publican (Verse 2):

Zacchaeus was the chief among the publicans. He was a tax collector. He was a traitor in the eyes of his people. He worked for the Roman oppressors. He collected taxes from his own people. He was hated. He was despised. He was rejected. He was rich. He had gained his wealth through dishonest means. He had cheated people. He had taken more than he should. He was a sinner. He was an outcast. He was lost.

The Desire to See Jesus (Verses 3-4):

Zacchaeus sought to see Jesus. He wanted to know who He was. He had heard about Him. He had heard about His miracles. He had heard about His teaching. He had heard about His compassion. He wanted to see Him. But there was a problem. He was little of stature. He was short. He could not see over the crowd. The press was too great. The crowd was too thick. But he did not give up. He ran before. He climbed up into a sycamore tree. He positioned himself. He made a way. He overcame the obstacle. He was determined. He was persistent. He was earnest.

Jesus Sees Him (Verse 5):

Jesus came to the place. He looked up. He saw him. He called him by name. “Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.” Jesus knew his name. Jesus knew his heart. Jesus knew his desire. Jesus saw him in the tree. Jesus called him down. Jesus invited Himself to his house. Jesus chose him. Jesus wanted him. Jesus loved him.

The Joyful Reception (Verse 6):

Zacchaeus made haste. He did not delay. He did not hesitate. He did not argue. He came down. He received Jesus joyfully. He was excited. He was happy. He was honored. He was blessed. He welcomed Jesus into his home. He welcomed Jesus into his life.

The Murmuring (Verse 7):

The people murmured. They complained. They grumbled. They criticized. They said, “That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.” They did not understand. They did not see what Jesus saw. They did not know what Jesus knew. They were looking at the outward appearance. They were judging by human standards. They did not realize that Jesus came for sinners. They did not realize that Jesus came for the lost. They did not realize that Jesus came for Zacchaeus.

Zacchaeus’ Repentance (Verse 8):

Zacchaeus stood. He made a declaration. He said, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.” He repented. He changed. He turned from his sin. He turned from his greed. He turned from his dishonesty. He gave half of his goods to the poor. He restored fourfold what he had taken falsely. This was not just sorrow. This was not just regret. This was real repentance. This was genuine transformation. This was the fruit of salvation.

Salvation Comes (Verses 9-10):

Jesus said, “This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.” Zacchaeus was a son of Abraham by faith. He was a descendant of Abraham by blood. But more importantly, he became a son of Abraham by faith. He believed in Jesus. He received Jesus. He was saved. Salvation came to his house. And Jesus declared His mission: “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Jesus came for the lost. He came for the sinner. He came for the outcast. He came for the despised. He came for Zacchaeus. He came for you. He came for me.

Question for the Day — Tuesday, 22nd September 2026:

Are you seeking Jesus with determination? Are you willing to overcome every obstacle to see Him? Are you answering His call with haste and joy? Have you repented and made restitution? And do you know that Jesus came to seek and save you?
