BASIC SCRIPTURE: DEUTERONOMY 34:1-12 (KJV)
-
And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan,
-
And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea,
-
And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar.
-
And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.
-
So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.
-
And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.
-
And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.
-
And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.
-
And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.
-
And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,
-
In all the signs and the wonders, which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land,
-
And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel.

PRAYER POINTS
-
Father, let me see the promises You have for me, even if I do not fully possess them in this life. Let me have a vision of my inheritance.
-
Lord, let me finish my course with my eyes not dim and my natural force not abated. Let me not weaken before my work is done.
-
Father, help me to accept Your timing and Your will, even when it does not match my expectations. Let me trust Your plan.
-
Lord, raise up Joshuas after me — men and women full of the spirit of wisdom who will carry on the work.
-
Father, let me lay hands on the next generation and impart Your spirit to them, as Moses laid hands on Joshua.
-
Lord, let my life be marked by signs and wonders, by mighty deeds and holy terror, that all may know You are with me.
-
Father, let me be one whom You know face to face — not a distant servant, but a close friend.
-
Lord, when my time comes, let me die well and be buried by Your hand, with my legacy secure in the next generation.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION
Key Verse: Deuteronomy 34:5 — “So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.”
The View from Pisgah (Verses 1-4):
Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah. From there, the Lord showed him all the land — Gilead, Dan, Naphtali, Ephraim, Manasseh, Judah, the western sea, the south, the valley of Jericho, and Zoar. He saw the entire inheritance. God said, “I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.” Moses saw the promise, but he did not enter it. He had led Israel for forty years, but he would not cross the Jordan. This was God’s will. Moses accepted it. He saw the land, and then he died.
The Death of Moses (Verses 5-6):
Moses died in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord. God buried him in a valley, and no one knows his burial place to this day. God buried His servant. He did not leave him to the hands of men. He honoured him in death. The secrecy of the burial place prevented the people from making a shrine of the man. Moses was not to be worshipped. He was to be remembered as a servant.
The Strength of Moses (Verse 7):
Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eye was not dim, and his natural force had not abated. He did not die of old age or weakness. He died because his work was finished. God preserved his strength to the very end. He did not fade away. He finished strong. This is the testimony of a life well lived.
The Mourning (Verse 8):
The children of Israel wept for Moses for thirty days. They honoured him. They grieved him. The mourning ended, and life continued. Death is a part of God’s plan. Mourning has its place, but it must not become permanent. The people wept, and then they rose to follow Joshua.
The Succession (Verse 9):
Joshua was full of the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. Moses did not leave the people leaderless. He had prepared Joshua. He had laid hands on him. He had imparted his spirit. The people hearkened to Joshua. The transition was smooth because Moses had prepared the next generation.
The Uniqueness of Moses (Verses 10-12):
There arose no prophet like Moses in Israel — whom the Lord knew face to face. Moses was unique. He spoke to God as a man speaks to his friend. He performed signs and wonders in Egypt. He did mighty deeds and great terrors in the sight of Israel. But even Moses died. Even the greatest must pass the baton. The work continues.
Face to Face:
Moses knew the Lord face to face. This is the highest honour a human can receive. Not just to know about God, but to know Him intimately. Not just to hear His voice, but to speak with Him as a friend. Moses had this. And though he died, his intimacy with God was his lasting legacy.
Question for the Day:
Are you preparing the next generation to continue the work? Will you finish strong, with your eyes not dim and your strength not abated? And do you know God face to face, as Moses did?
