BASIC SCRIPTURES: EXODUS 17:8-13; HEBREWS 13:17-18

BASIC SCRIPTURE: THURSDAY, 15TH OCTOBER 2026 — EXODUS 17:8-13 (KJV)

  1. Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

  2. And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.

  3. So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

  4. And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

  5. But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

  6. And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

BASIC SCRIPTURE: HEBREWS 13:17-18 (KJV)

  1. Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

  2. Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION — THURSDAY, 15TH OCTOBER 2026

Key Verse (Exodus): Exodus 17:11 — “And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.”

Key Verse (Hebrews): Hebrews 13:17 — “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account.”

The Battle with Amalek (Exodus 17:8):

Amalek was a ruthless enemy. They attacked Israel from behind. They targeted the weak, the weary, and the stragglers. They had no fear of God. They had no honour. They had no mercy. They were a picture of the flesh. They were a picture of the world. They were a picture of the enemy of our souls. They fought Israel in Rephidim. They came against God’s people. They came against God’s plan. They came against God’s purpose.

The Two Fronts of the Battle (Exodus 17:9-10):

Moses understood that this battle had to be fought on two fronts. There was the earthly front. There was the heavenly front. There was the physical front. There was the spiritual front. There was the battlefield. There was the prayer altar. Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.” Joshua would fight in the valley. Moses would intercede on the mountain. Both were essential. Both were necessary. Both were critical. Joshua could not win without Moses. Moses could not win without Joshua. They needed each other. They depended on each other.

The Hands of Moses (Exodus 17:11-12):

The battle went back and forth. When Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. The victory was connected to the intercession. The outcome was linked to the prayer. But Moses’ hands were heavy. He grew tired. He grew weary. He grew exhausted. He could not hold them up on his own. He needed help. And God provided help. Aaron and Hur came alongside him. They took a stone and put it under him. They gave him a seat. They gave him rest. And they held up his hands. One on one side. One on the other side. His hands were steady until the going down of the sun. And Joshua discomfited Amalek with the edge of the sword.

The Lesson of Partnership:

This is a picture of the body of Christ. Some are called to fight on the front lines. Some are called to intercede on the mountains. But even intercessors need support. Even prayer warriors need help. Even leaders need lifters. Aaron and Hur did not fight with swords. They did not go into the valley. They did not face the enemy directly. But they held up the hands of Moses. And through their support, Israel won the battle. Your role may not be visible. Your role may not be public. Your role may not be celebrated. But it is essential. It is vital. It is necessary. When you support your leaders in prayer, you are winning battles. When you encourage your pastors, you are defeating enemies. When you lift up the hands of those who lead, you are securing victory for the entire body.

Obey Your Leaders (Hebrews 13:17):

The writer of Hebrews gives a command. Obey them that have the rule over you. Submit yourselves. They watch for your souls. They are accountable to God for you. They will give an account for your spiritual well-being. They carry a heavy burden. They bear a great responsibility. Make their work a joy. Do not make it a grief. Do not be a source of pain. Do not be a source of frustration. Do not be a source of discouragement. Be a source of joy. Be a source of encouragement. Be a source of strength. When they give account, let it be with joy and not with grief. For that is unprofitable for you. When your leaders grieve, you lose. When your leaders are discouraged, you suffer. When your leaders are weakened, you are vulnerable. Support them. Uphold them. Pray for them.

Pray for Us (Hebrews 13:18):

The writer asks for prayer. “Pray for us.” He is a leader. He is a teacher. He is a shepherd. And he asks for prayer. Leaders need prayer. They need intercession. They need support. They need spiritual covering. They trust they have a good conscience. They desire to live honestly. But they still need prayer. Do not assume your leaders are fine. Do not assume they do not need your prayers. They do. Pray for them. Intercede for them. Hold up their hands. Support them. Encourage them. And God will give victory.

Question for the Day — Thursday, 15th October 2026:

Are you holding up the hands of your leaders in prayer? Are you supporting them, encouraging them, and interceding for them? And are you making their work a joy and not a grief?
