BASIC SCRIPTURE: PSALM 90: 4 – 17

BASIC SCRIPTURE: PSALM 90:4-17 (KJV)

4. For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

5. Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.

6. In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.

7. For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.

8. Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.

9. For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

10. The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

11. Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.

12. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

13. Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.

14. O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

15. Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.

16. Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.

17. And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

 PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, teach me to number my days, that I may apply my heart unto wisdom. Let me not live as if I have endless time.

2. Lord, I thank You that a thousand years in Your sight are but as yesterday. Let me see my life from Your eternal perspective.

3. Father, I confess that my days are like grass that withers. Let me not put my trust in temporary things but in You who are eternal.

4. Lord, set my secret sins in the light of Your countenance. Let me not hide my sin from You, but confess and be cleansed.

5. Father, satisfy me early with Your mercy. Let me rejoice and be glad all the days of my life.

6. Lord, make me glad according to the days in which I have been afflicted. Let joy come after sorrow, and beauty after ashes.

7. Father, let Your work appear unto me and Your glory unto my children. Let the next generation see Your power and majesty.

8. Lord, let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us. Establish the work of our hands. Let my labour not be in vain.

DECLARATIONS

1. I declare that I number my days and apply my heart to wisdom. I live with eternity in view.

2. A thousand years in God’s sight are but as yesterday. I live for what lasts forever.

3. My days are like grass, but God is eternal. I do not put my trust in temporary things.

4. My secret sins are exposed to God’s light. I confess and am cleansed.

ADDITIONAL REFLECTION

Key Verse: Psalm 90:12 — “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

A Thousand Years as Yesterday (Verse 4):

God is eternal. Time does not limit Him. A thousand years in His sight are but as yesterday. They pass quickly. They are like a watch in the night. This is not to make us feel insignificant. It is to make us see God’s greatness. He is beyond time. He is beyond our limited perspective. He sees the end from the beginning. And He invites us to see our lives from His perspective.

The Brevity of Life (Verses 5-6):

Human life is short. We are carried away as with a flood. We are like a sleep. We are like grass that flourishes in the morning and withers in the evening. Life is brief. It is fragile. It is fleeting. It is like grass that is here today and gone tomorrow. We cannot hold onto it. We cannot make it last. We must use it wisely.

Our Iniquities and Secret Sins (Verse 8):

God sets our iniquities before Him. Our secret sins are in the light of His countenance. Nothing is hidden from God. Nothing is secret. The things we think no one knows, God knows. The things we hide from others, God sees. This is a sobering truth. But it is also a liberating one. We can bring our sins into the light and receive forgiveness. We do not have to hide from God.

The Days of Our Years (Verse 10):

The average lifespan is seventy years. Eighty if we have strength. And even then, our strength is labour and sorrow. Life is not easy. It is hard. It is full of toil and trouble. And then it is soon cut off. We fly away. Death comes to all. There is no escape. So we must live wisely.

Teach Us to Number Our Days (Verse 12):

This is one of the great prayers of Scripture. “Teach us to number our days.” It is a prayer for wisdom. It is a prayer for perspective. It is a prayer that we would not waste our lives. We do not know how many days we have. But we can live each day as if it matters. We can apply our hearts to wisdom.

Satisfy Us Early with Thy Mercy (Verse 14):

This is a prayer for satisfaction. Not just for provision, but for satisfaction. “Satisfy us early with thy mercy.” Let us experience Your mercy. Let us be filled with Your goodness. Let us not live on empty hope. Let us rejoice and be glad all our days. Not just some days. All our days.

Make Us Glad According to the Days of Affliction (Verse 15):

This is a prayer for balance. We have had days of affliction. We have had years of evil. Make us glad according to those days. Let the joy match the sorrow. Let the blessing match the trial. Let the comfort match the pain. God is able to restore. He can give joy for mourning. He can give beauty for ashes. He can make us glad.

The Beauty of the Lord (Verse 17):

This is a prayer for divine favour. “Let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us.” Let His grace, His presence, His favour, His glory be upon us. Let it be visible. Let it be evident. And let the work of our hands be established. Not just our prayer. Not just our worship. The work of our hands. Our labour. Our daily work. Establish it. Make it fruitful. Make it lasting. Do not let it be in vain.
