A DEVOTIONAL COMMENTARY

TEXT: “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” – Mark 9:23 (KJV)

CONNECTING THE STORY TO SCRIPTURE

The true-life story of Dashrat Manjhi is not merely a tale of human endurance; it is a parable of the Kingdom of God. Here was a man from Gehlaur village, Bihar, India, a poor labourer, who watched his wife die because the nearest medical aid was on the other side of a mountain. That mountain—cold, unfeeling, and impossible—stole his beloved. But what the enemy meant for evil, God turned into a monument of faith. Manjhi did not sit under the mountain and weep forever. He picked up a hammer and a chisel, and for 22 years, he carved a path through solid rock. When he finished, a 110-metre long, 9-metre wide, 7-metre deep road existed where once stood an immovable peak. The distance from his village to the town was reduced from 55 kilometres to 15.

The world called him insane. His own people mocked him. Government officials ignored him. The mountain laughed at his tiny hammer. But Manjhi kept swinging. And 22 years later, the mountain moved.

THE SCRIPTURAL PARALLEL

This is the faith of which Jesus spoke in Mark 9:23. When the father of the demon-possessed boy brought his child to the disciples and they could not cast out the spirit, Jesus declared a truth that echoes through millennia: “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”

Notice carefully: Jesus did not say, “If thou canst work hard enough.” He did not say, “If thou canst find the right resources.” He did not say, “If thou canst persuade enough people.” He said, IF THOU CANST BELIEVE.

Dashrat Manjhi believed. He believed that the mountain was not his master. He believed that his wife’s death would not be in vain. He believed that one man with a hammer and an unyielding heart could do what governments and armies had not done. And he was right.

THE 22-YEAR PRINCIPLE

The number twenty-two in Scripture is significant. It took Jacob twenty-two years from his departure from Laban to his reconciliation with Esau and his settling in Shechem. The children of Israel wandered twenty-two years from Kadesh-barnea to the death of Miriam. David waited twenty-two years from his anointing to his full kingship over all Israel.

Abraham waited twenty-five years for Isaac.
Joseph waited thirteen years for his dream.
Moses waited forty years in the wilderness.
Jesus waited thirty years before His ministry.

Why does God make us wait?

1. To Kill Our Timetable – God is never late, but He is rarely early. He waits until our Egyptian army is drowned in the Red Sea before He opens the path. He waits until Lazarus is four days dead before He arrives. He waits until the mountain has mocked us long enough that when it moves, no one can deny His hand.

2. To Strengthen Our Spiritual Muscles – Faith is like a muscle; it only grows under resistance. Twenty-two years of swinging a hammer builds a different kind of faith than twenty-two minutes of praying. The Manjhi who emerged from those years was not the same man who began. He was carved by the carving.

3. To Silence the Mockers – God loves a testimony that shuts mouths. When Sarah conceived at ninety, when Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground, when Manjhi’s road was completed, the mockers had nothing left to say. “The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.” (Psalm 126:3)

THE MOCKERS AT THE CROSS

Every mountain-builder faces mockers. When Jesus hung on the cross, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders gathered to mock Him: “He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.” (Matthew 27:42)

They did not know that His refusal to come down was the very act that would save them. They mocked His weakness, not understanding His strength. They mocked His delay, not comprehending His eternal purpose.

Beloved, your mockers do not know what your God is doing. They see the hammer; they do not see the architect. They hear the chisel; they do not hear the angels singing. They measure the mountain; they do not measure the measureless power of your faith.

THE POSITIVE THINKER’S CONFESSION

Dr. Robert Schuller wrote, “The only place where your dream becomes impossible is in your own thinking.” This is not the power of positive thinking removed from God; this is the power of faith-filled thinking rooted in the character of a God who speaks worlds into existence.

The positive thinker:

• Sees the invisible – Abraham saw a city whose builder and maker was God.

• Feels the intangible – Moses endured as seeing Him who is invisible.

• Achieves the impossible – Joshua watched the walls of Jericho fall flat.

WHAT IS YOUR MOUNTAIN TODAY?

Is it a marriage that has died? Is it a child who has wandered? Is it a health report that speaks death? Is it a financial prison with no visible exit? Is it a dream buried so long it feels like a corpse?

Hear the Word of the Lord: “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”

Your mountain is not greater than your God. Your twenty-two years are not longer than His patience. Your hammer is not too small. Your strength is not too weak. The One who spoke to the deaf and dumb spirit and commanded it to come out and enter no more—that same Jesus stands before your mountain today.

THE ASABA CONNECTION

Today, February 21st, 2026, at The Cenotaph in Asaba, Nigeria, the Body of Christ gathers for DAY 2 of the ASABA SPECIAL ANOINTING SERVICE. The theme thunders: “I SHALL NOT CRY! I SHALL NOT BE MOCKED IN 2026!”

This is not a conference of complainers. This is an assembly of mountain-breakers. These are men and women who have picked up their hammers and refuse to put them down. These are the Dashrat Manjhis of the Kingdom, who have been mocked too long, delayed too long, and overlooked too long—and they have gathered to say, “ENOUGH!”

The anointing that falls at Asaba is not for entertainment; it is empowerment for the impossible. It is the breath of God filling lungs that have been crushed by mountains. It is the fire of God melting hearts that have been frozen by disappointment. It is the voice of God saying to every deaf and dumb spirit: “COME OUT OF HIM, AND ENTER NO MORE!”

LESSONS FROM DASHRAT MANJHI FOR YOUR 22-YEAR WAIT

1. Rage Can Be Redeemed
Manjhi began in anger. His wife’s death enraged him, and that rage fuelled twenty-two years of labour. While the Bible warns, “Be ye angry, and sin not” (Ephesians 4:26), there is a holy anger against the works of the devil that God can sanctify. Channel your frustration at the mountain into persistent prayer. Let your holy anger become holy action.

2. Solitary Labour Is Still Labour
Manjhi worked alone for most of those twenty-two years. No team. No donor. No cheering crowd. Just one man and a mountain. Elijah thought he was alone, but God had seven thousand. Yet before the seven thousand were revealed, Elijah stood alone on Mount Carmel. Do not despise the days when you labour alone. God sees.

3. The Second Generation Benefits
Manjhi never drove a car on that road. He never rode a bicycle to the market. But countless villagers after him have walked, cycled, and driven through the path he carved. Your struggle may not benefit you immediately, but it will pave the way for your children. You are building roads your grandchildren will travel.

4. Governments Will Notice Eventually
Years after Manjhi completed his road, the Bihar government honoured him and paved his dirt road with concrete. The world may ignore you while you are swinging the hammer, but it will admire you when the mountain is moved. Work for God’s applause, not man’s. Man’s applause will come when God decides.

5. Death Does Not Defeat Purpose
Manjhi’s wife died. But her death became the catalyst for a transformation that saved thousands. Joseph was sold into slavery, but slavery became the path to premiership. Jesus was crucified, but the cross became the throne of redemption. Your greatest sorrow may be the birthplace of your greatest ministry.

A PROPHETIC DECLARATION FOR DAY 21

Hear this, O mountain-breaker:

The hammer in your hand is not iron; it is faith.
The chisel in your grip is not steel; it is the Word of God.
The mountain before you is not granite; it is a lie dressed in stone.
The twenty-two years are not wasted; they are the gestation of your miracle.

Today, the LORD says:
“I have seen your tears. I have counted your swings. I have recorded every mocking word spoken against you, and I have filed every rejection letter. Now, I arise. Now, the mountain shakes. Now, the road appears. Now, the mockers shall eat their words. For I am the God of the impossible, and I have not forgotten My servant.”

PRAYER POINTS FOR FEBRUARY 21st, 2026

1. Lord, I repent of every time I have believed the report of the mountain more than the report of Your Word. Forgive me for calling impossible what You have called possible. (Mark 9:23)

2. Father, sanctify my pain. Every loss I have suffered, every death I have mourned, turn it into the fuel that drives my destiny. Let not my sorrow be wasted. (Psalm 56:8)

3. I bind the spirit of mockery assigned against my life and destiny. Every voice that says, “It cannot be done,” I silence it by the blood of Jesus. (Zephaniah 3:19)

4. Lord, grant me the grace of endurance. When I am weary, strengthen me. When I am alone, assure me. When I am tempted to quit, remind me of the road I am building. (Galatians 6:9)

5. I receive the Asaba anointing for mountain-moving faith. Let the same power that raised Christ from the dead quicken my mortal body and my mortal dreams. (Romans 8:11)

6. Father, connect me to my divine destiny helpers. As Manjhi laboured alone but was eventually honoured, send those who will complete what I have begun. (Ecclesiastes 4:9)

7. I declare that 2026 is my year of open highways. Every mountain in my path is becoming a plain. Every obstacle is becoming an opportunity. Every delay is becoming a testimony. (Isaiah 40:4)

DECLARATIONS

1. I SHALL NOT CRY! My weeping endures for a night, but my joy cometh in the morning of my breakthrough. (Psalm 30:5)

2. I SHALL NOT BE MOCKED IN 2026! Those who laughed at my labour shall applaud my harvest. (Joel 2:19)

3. ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE UNTO ME, FOR I BELIEVE! Unbelief is broken; doubt is destroyed; faith is activated. (Mark 9:23)

4. THIS KIND OF MOUNTAIN COMETH FORTH BY PRAYER AND FASTING! I am equipped. I am armed. I am unstoppable. (Mark 9:29)

5. JESUS TAKETH ME BY THE HAND AND LIFTETH ME UP! I arise from the dust of disappointment. I ascend from the grave of delay. I walk in resurrection power. (Mark 9:27)

CLOSING MEDITATION

“I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.” (Job 42:5)

Dashrat Manjhi had heard of the other side of the mountain. He knew there were hospitals there, markets there, opportunity there. But for years, he could not see it. The mountain blocked his vision.

Then he took up his hammer.

Twenty-two years later, he stood in the gap he had carved, and on both sides of him stood the mountain. But before him lay the open road. He could see now. The road he built became the lens through which he viewed the future.

Beloved, your hammer is your faith. Your chisel is your prayer. Your mountain is your assignment. Swing. Chip. Persist. Believe.

And one morning, you will stand in the gap you have carved, and you will see what you have only heard of: the glory of God on the other side.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
