Acts 20:18-27 (KJV)
18 And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,
19 Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
20 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,
21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
22 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:
23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.
24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.
27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

PART TWO: REFLECTION ON THE SCRIPTURE
This passage contains Paul’s farewell address to the Ephesian elders. It is one of the most personal and revealing glimpses into the heart of the apostle. Speaking to men he would never see again, Paul opens his soul and shares the principles that guided his ministry.
The Manner of Paul’s Ministry (verses 18-21)
Paul begins by reminding them of his conduct among them:
“At all seasons” – His ministry was consistent, not sporadic. He was faithful in every season.
“Serving the Lord with all humility of mind” – Paul’s service was characterized by humility. He did not promote himself but served with a lowliness that reflected Christ.
“With many tears” – His ministry was marked by deep emotion. He wept over souls, wept over struggles, wept over the church.
“With temptations” – He faced trials and testings, yet remained faithful.
“I kept back nothing that was profitable” – Paul preached the whole counsel of God, withholding nothing that would benefit his hearers. His preaching was not selective but comprehensive.
“Publickly, and from house to house” – He preached both to crowds and in homes, reaching people wherever they were.
“Testifying repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ” – His message was simple and consistent: turn from sin and trust in Christ.
The Compulsion of the Spirit (verses 22-23)
Paul reveals that he is going to Jerusalem “bound in the spirit.” The Holy Spirit had constrained him, directing his steps even toward suffering. He did not know the details of what awaited him, but he knew that “bonds and afflictions” were ahead.
This is a model of Spirit-led living. Paul did not have full disclosure of the future, but he had full trust in the One who led him.
The Resolute Declaration (verse 24)
This verse contains one of the most powerful statements of commitment in Scripture:
“But none of these things move me” – Threats, bonds, afflictions—none of them shook his resolve.
“Neither count I my life dear unto myself” – His life was not his most treasured possession. He held it loosely.
“So that I might finish my course with joy” – His goal was not just to finish, but to finish with joy. Not merely to endure, but to rejoice.
“And the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus” – He recognized his ministry as a stewardship, not an achievement.
“To testify the gospel of the grace of God” – This was his life’s purpose—to bear witness to God’s unmerited favour.
The Awareness of Departure (verse 25)
Paul knew he would not see these beloved brothers again. This awareness gave his words urgency and weight. He spoke as a dying man to those he loved.
The Clear Conscience (verse 26)
“I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.”
Paul could declare with confidence that he had discharged his duty. He had preached the gospel faithfully. If any perished, it was not for lack of warning.
The Faithful Steward (verse 27)
“For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.”
Paul had held nothing back. He preached the full range of divine revelation—comfort and warning, blessing and judgment, grace and responsibility.

Paul’s example challenges us to serve with humility, tears, and consistency, regardless of opposition.

The call to declare “all the counsel of God” without shrinking from difficult truths.

Help me to declare all Your counsel, holding back nothing that is profitable. Give me courage to preach both repentance and faith, both warning and welcome.
Let me be bound in the Spirit, following Your leading even when the path leads through difficulty. Let nothing move me—not threats, not afflictions, not the fear of man.
I declare that I do not count my life dear unto myself. Help me to hold it loosely for Your sake. Grant that I may finish my course with joy, fulfilling the ministry I have received from You.
Let me live with a clear conscience, faithful in warning and witness, pure from the blood of all men.
